Hello all,
I'm looking at getting a Contax T3 but the manual says that non-DX coded film will be set to ISO 100? Is that true? Is there some way to overcome this? I am fond of a particular iso 50 film that I have bulked rolled...

Also, do you guys know the new/used prices locally and overseas? I've only tried comparing to Keh.com. CP seyz around 1.2k... haven't asked tcw yet.

Thanks!

Alvin

dun worry,u can offset by adding the exposure compensation up to 2 stops.

Used to have one,it rocks!

Check with Poon from hksupplies via email. He might be able to make an exception for you, to sell it to you at USD490 inclusive of shipping. I don't know if TCW can match this price though. If you are buying the Titanium one, make sure that you get the one with two teeth that catches the film, not the older ones that have only one teeth.

Kex, so if I just load in my bulk film, I can just dial in one stop overexposure for iso 50 - does that sound right? Do you remember if it is easy to set the AE Lock? btw what are you using now for 135? Red dot? ;p

Parchiao: thanks for the heads up! I'll check around for hksupplies after I post this message. What's the extra teeth for? Easier to catch the film?

Thanks guys! The only working compact camera I got now at home has a widest aperture of F10+ haha :-)

Regards,
Alvin

The original T3 had only one teeth in the take up spool. I read from various internet sources that the teeth breaks easily, but I never had this "problem" during my two years and coutless rolls of film with the T3. The new T3 should have addressed this "problem".

Yes alvin, you are right, just dial in a +1 compensation to get the camera meter @ ISO 50,AE Lock on the T3 is just like most camera, just point at the gray tone or wherever u deem fit, lightly depress the shutter release and hold it there, then compose and shoot..

i'm using my Xpan now for my 35mm,also have an old Nikon SLR,but that one hiding in my dry cabinet, only use it for portrait(105mm) and as a spare to my DSLR..

i handled many P&S b4,and printed alot more,Contax T3 is the BEST!
metering is very good for slide film, sharpness and contrast of the image produced by the lens on the slides is amazing.

one useful feature is the camera lcd will show the distance(point of focus) after u release the shutter for a short while,so you judge whether the focus is accurate anot..ie,u take a pix of 2 frd placing them at the side at 2m,if the lcd shows infinity,u know u must refocus and shoot again..

yes, are you able to stick over the film canister' DX code to create the dx code you wanted?

T3, bo bei zhou (no horse run)

i think it will be easier to just turn the small knob and compensate then sticking the DX..2stops adjustments is more than enuff for 95% of the time.

sometimes you may forget or may need the 2 stops for shooting situations so its just me la, i preventive measure type.

Thanks guys!

BTW, a bit OT, I actually rather like the way the AE lock works on the contax G1. There is a dedicated AE lock - the half press on the shutter release is only for the focusing. And i've been using ae lock very often... so if like for shooting backlit scenes where I need to focus at infinity, I usually point down, ae lock then bring the camera up to focus. Do you guys have any issues with the T3 in this sense?

Alvin

how about a Minolta TC1? Should be as good, right?

there is a AE lock also in T3, takes 2 seconds (forever) to activate.

Cool! Thanks Belle&Sebastain! I guess my next months pay will be *severely* affected haha :-)

Kho King, I have been bitten by the CZ bug! I use minolta gear near exclusively (Minolta 7S, Dynax 5, X700, have a minolta P&S but its fungi'ed ) but none of them give the taste of a planar.... but the tc1 IS very small. Lovely piece of kit.

Contax T3 is still the best P&S camera!!!

Crap. Went down to TCW and the T3 has been sold. I knew I shoulda bit the bullet and bought it on the spot. Anyway....

Do you guys know if it's convenient to attach a colour filter (yellow will be good for a start - intend to load it with XP2) to the T3? Will it still be able to like, be put into its belt pouch? Can't carry my G1, and i've kicked myself for missing some shots :(

Yes, it is convenient to attach a filter (for me, I attach an UV) on my T3 (need to buy a filter adaptor so that filter can be attach).
Just buy a Contax Semi-hard case CC-82 and voila!!!

But you have to remember to compensate for the filter factor by the appropriate number of stops as metering is not through the lens. I used the T3 with the filter adpater, UV filter and the 30.5mm TVS lens snap on cap. Kept them in the CC-82 semi hard case and slung it around my shoulder with a W-25 wide strap instead of the leather strap that comes with the case. It isn't necessary, but having easy access is a real boon. A bit of an overkill, but it sure does feel good and looks cool. :bsmilie:
