Comments on Konica M Hexanon 50mm F1.2 pls

Hi RF bros,

Would appreciate comments on the Hexanon M 50 1.2. It is pretty rare and I'm considering this as an option to the regular 50 lux asph / crons. Planning to get the new M in foreseeable future.

I have the 50 lux asph, cz 50 planar, cz 50 sonnar and cv 50 1.5 before.... Trying my luck to find friends who had experience with the Hex and can comment on wide open sharpness, corner sharpness, contrast wide open, bokeh qualities, etc.

The reason I am consideration this hex is because I have the Hex M 28 f2.8 and am reasonably happy with its performance. Wondering if the Hex 50 1.2 also uphold the same optical qualities....

My friend has it and I saw the samples that he came up with (raw files from M9).

His comments are, "soft wide open but better when stopped down to F2". I think I remember it being low contrast as well.

I personally don't think its a good lens for a digital camera. Unless you're in love with that classic rendering which can be obtained from cheaper options like the canon 50 1.2. You can probably find samples about the bokeh online. And there's no lens I know of with corner sharpness wide open other than the 50 lux asph.

That aside, the ergonomics are HORRIBLE. It isn't a lens i'd use everyday. It is big, chunky and blocks a fair bit of the VF with the hood on. I see it as a lens I'd collect if I had the money but not one I'd shoot with.

These pictures below were taken by me. Konica M-Hexanon 50mm f1.2 used on film and all wide open. I think this lens is sharp enough when wide open and its built quality is excellent. Everything just working smoothly. Don't forgot this is limited edition lens which is worth to buy. IMHO,this lens is the best F1.2 lens Japanese have ever made. Well, I have to say that everyone has their own taste. But this one is really my cup of tea.
