hihi,

i am not sure if the questions have been asked before ... but i hope to carify some doubts i have before buying a video cam.

what i used to do:
1. take video using mini dv
2. export to premiere
3. edit, export as avi and then dvd

however, i am looking at doing away with tapes, thus looking at getting a new cam using flash memory/hard disk.
my doubts:

flash memory
flash memory cams losing out in picture and sound quality? or is hard disk any better?

in the case non HD,
1. how do i export my videos from the cam to pc then? just file transfer? i understand its normally mpeg2 or 4 ... can these files be edited on premiere pro directly (or do i need to get plug ins, and are the plug ins easily available and free?) ?

in the case of HD,
2. HD seems to be the in thing. my question is, i do not have any HD tv, meaning i cant watch my videos using RCA cables on a non HD tc? also, the HD files are not really editable directly with premeire? and can i still produce non HD dvds when i shoot in HD? also can a normal PC edit HD?

lastly, any reconmendations for a flash memory cam with the below features:
1. good lens
2. good internal mic
3. built in video light
4. hopefully under 1.6k

i have done the research already...can refer here. http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=407227

more or less decided on Canon HF100 but the local price and newegg price is shocking.

how do i export my videos from the cam to pc then?
Either USB or take out the card, pit inside card reader and copy to hdd.

can these files be edited on premiere pro directly
Check with Adobe. Mpeg2 only if shoot in SD, AVCHD if shoot in HD.

i cant watch my videos using RCA cables on a non HD
Author it to DVD and playback on a regular dvd player but kinda wasted if HD footage. For direct, some camcorders have AV out.

also can a normal PC edit HD?
What is your current pc specs?

hihi

bought the sony HC7 (discon model) but its cheap and good. decided to stay with tapes as i dun really take videos all the time but mainly is the ease of editing. :)

but another question ... i am thinking of a wide converter ... what are the choices? the sony ones are quite ex, any cheap alternatives around?

I have one HC7. I only use it to capture video. :P
When i purchased the cam, they gave me the wide angel lens for free. But it seems it's just a piece of plastic, you can caputer more things inside ur video by using the wide angel lens.(assuming same distance to the object)
