Chingay Setup

Is 50mm 1.7 lens and a Minolta 7D a good setup for taking Chingay photos?
What are the recommended settings? Any experiences to share?

bring your flash. and a walkabout lens would be good, or something in the 70-200 / 70-300 range unless you have some special connections to run on the road with the parade
and go VERY early and chope the high ground. otherwise just stand back and enjoy the parade

Depending on what you are after really...

50mm f1.7 is great for low light, will be good to incorporate a little fill flash.
