i know this was covered b4, but decided to contribute on this matter again.

I went to Cathay photo to check the price of the card, where i was quoted $460 and $490 by two diff sales men. Dodgy.

meanwhile, went to Alan photo, and was quoted $430

then went to John 4:16 the one at Funan centre (whatever the num it is, sorry christian folks, no offence) and was given a CRAP talk that for shops selling IBM 1GB microdrive CF card below $400. the cards are EXPORT SETs, and are NOT WARRENTED. Meanwhile, their IBM 1GB cards, are double warrented. (by IBM and their shop warrenty) - looks like they are just like ANY OTHER TOUT SHOP that dispense crap advice, what a disappointment, for one that decides to put a religious link to his shopfront, is as otherwise.

Anyway, finally settled at MS photo, as directed and got my 1GB CF card, for $390, and w warrenty.

MS photo is at AMK central beside Jubilee cinema, just linked w the S11.

I got my IBM microdrive 1GB (kit version) at $385 in AP. The warranty card was in fact shown to me even when I did not request to see. Maybe there is someone in the market spreading the same rumour? :dunno:

They aren't wrong in saying that.IBM official distributor is digiland. But exports sets can be sent directly to IBM loyang for RMA. So if u dun mind the hassle of going to Loyang instead of the shop u buy from, u can always buy exports sets. If the IBM RMA remains the same since i last serviced the microdrive, a courier will deliver the replacement within 1 working week.

hi,

I was thinking i was gonna get flamed for sparking this issue, in cccccase i get people later who analyse every paragraphh of my passages and rebut me. (but that is really the one of the greatest compliment one can get, as that means, it matters)

anyway, the disclaimer: It may seem like a flame to other shops i was reviewing, when i could not get that $390 price from them.
Well, no, i think u just need to maintain a link with them, and if it clicks, prices can go down, that's retail world, where prices are not fixed, i worked in such b4, and understand that. i dun support any shop, but just try to give those bad ones, a fair share of what they should get,

By the way, in relation to what u said, i guess, u just need to as i said earlier, have that friendly face, that would clicked with them, and try in any way make them sell u stuff at unspoken standard price. But here is the tricky part too, what is the standard price, if it's 'unspoken', well, to remedy that, u just got to do your price homework.

As for the rumours part, well, i think it's might be due to the sellers who are unwilling to cut their profit share.

well, they know this, time is on their side for now, demand overexceeds supply. And really, everything done is not personal, just pure business. I understand...

that verse, it got to do with 'do what u dun want others to do upon u', is it? it's been so long since i got in touch with that community... sad to say, not everyone can try to follow, we are better at buying, reading, and keeping. Stops there.

Just checking... the Microdrive and CF cards are different right? The microdrive (which fits in a CF slot) is actually a miniature hardisk unlike the usual CF cards right????

microdrive is a bit thicker than CF

so u must check if your device support mircodrive or not...

yes..it is a super mini harddisk, but is much more fragile than normal IDE harddisks...esp if u take out your drive frequently

btw, how long is the warranty suppose to be? 6 mths? 1 year?

There are type II CF out there, just that you don't see them in Singapore. Basically it's a solid state memory vs a mini magentic disk.

you mean the 1GB CF , not the microdrive is already available in Singapore ?

apologises for my misinfo, make it sound like D90, or D2 had arrived to market. Very silly mistake, very sorry.

Well, if I am not wrong, the Sandisk 1GB CF Type II is available in SLS, 4th floor. I could not remember which shop, though. The price which was quoted to me was a whopping $1300! But then again, the IBM microdrive is quoted at $550.

darn... $1300!!! but then again, solid state memory isn't as fragile as Kamwai has pointed out... I can imagine dropping my microdrive as I take it out of the cam... duhh... that would be a gonner for sure! :P

What about a 256MB CF? $200? more?

I have read somewhere here that someone got a 256MB for only $170 and if I am not wrong, the person got it at AP.

Errr??? What is this again? Sure! Anybody else tells you something crab is OK. When a christian tells you something, GOD must be involved? MAN!

Did you ever try to find out how many salesman out there who are christian? Ever think about it when you are cheated by them? Or just go ahead and say it! All christian are cheats! Damm...

Makes my blood boil when somebody here who is not discussing about photography. I ask all the moderators to delete all posts if it's target anything else other than photography or equipments!

Somebody once bought a "cheapo" MD card. It broke down and the shop in SLS sends him to Digiland. However, the agent refuse to exchange/repair as it's not from them. Fair/:dunno:

When somebody tried to be nice and tells you what happen, you go ahead and make a deathwish to flame this ppl.

SHAME ON YOU! If you can't get the right price, it's your problem. Sure, I believe it's fair to compair prcies. But what you are doing here is crying foul! :thumbsd:

Reminds me that you sound very much like Nicholas the school boy.....:D
