no need to buy the drives, the cables can be bought from funan, slt cable shops like suntronics and fast cable (or some name like that) for about $2 each. two cables in a pack, you use only the one with the head that we chop up for the remote port.

yes, NSEW facing, each camera mounted with at least 28mm lens (i believe they have about 100 degree field of view - ah, whatever) but preferrably all 4 cameras and lenses should be the same. like 5d with 18-70 kit lenses. all set to same settings, same tripod height, and connected to a single trigger mechanism (like your diy with the CF box).

enough room in the centre for the photographer to stand in to trigger a 360-degree 4-piece shot that can be stitched together to form one heckofva pano...hee... like i said, experiment... but i think it should work, not sure about metering consistency though...

funny that no other KMOS has jumped in to bash or support this crazy idea, yet. :bsmilie:

just had a thought, cd audio cable head connected to a cable of your choice, connected to a 3-way slider switch (off-1-2) and you'll have a remote.

Must have half-press to focus lock first... unless u set manually all the lenses to infinity...;p

come to think about it... i dun think his will work if set to AF, cos in AF mode, if there is no focus lock, u press down the button, it won't shoot. tried on both D7 & D7D

actually, i never noticed this problem before, but i found out why. i liked to put my pirority as Release pirority, always hated AF pirority as i rather have a blur shot than to have no shots in some unexpected happenings. i tried to switch back to AF pirority, and like what you said, the remote indeed can't really work well.

so far, i had no problems about the abscene of the AF lock on my remote as i only use the remote for night scenes. so basically, i half pressed on my subject, and just left it alone. like the fireworks i took for national day, it was just half-press, then press remote, release, press remote, release............ so basically, i had my camera at release pirority to make my remote work.

hmmm.......actually can hor, have a large foil wrapped up, and slide it along. when it touches connection 1&2. it focuses, then to shoot, slide in further to connect all three. however, might depends on what you personally like, cos me like the pressing style of releasing the shutter.

there is one small little inconvinence of making this DIY remote, which is the facing of the connection. when you use the CD jack, it can be inserted both upside and upside down. so if insert wong way, the focusing part will not work, as it is no more 1&2 but rather, 2&3. but mine dun have focusing, so not really a problem.

if you trim the connector correctly it won't fit when its upside down. you will notice that 3 pins are not centered in the remote port. i don't recommend you try proving this wrong unless you want to risk damaging the 7d's pins. :bsmilie:
