hi,
I'm inspired by ark19's IR - Walkabout at Toa Payoh... so decided to give a try myself. Took a short walk to Toa Payoh Garden (near my flat), followed the sticky instructions and took some shots...

I was amazed and very happy with my Nikon D70's output after following the custom WB instruction. Back home, ready to do the tweaking but just can't find the "Channel Mixer" in Photoshop Elements (old version). Spent more than 2 hrs searching for it, gave up...

Is my Photoshop Elements too old to make changes? If so, any cheaper recommendation?
Is my camera's settings (based on my photo) ok for IR? Please feel free to edit as I am desperate to see the result...

Please help. Newbie here. Thanks!

PS Elements do not have Channel mixer.

Hi Xsys, you might want to try GIMP , which is a free image editor similar to PS.

Not sure if you can do channel mixing with it, but i'm downloading it now to try....

Welcome to IR :D
And that's a nice IR photo!

Hi Snowcrash and ark19,
Thanks for the information and the help.

Am I correct that "PS" is actually refering to "Photoshop CS"?
The only software that you guys use to turn the sky to blue yet retaining the trees white etc?

That's really amazing and stunning works!

HI,

i just started IR also...

i just bought HOYA R72 that day and eager to try out. I set the Custom WB and shoot also. When i wanted to change the mixer value in Photoshop CS, i also cant find bar to adjust the blue and red channel. I click on the red channel, nothing for me to adjust, i can only see the change in the display photo to red channel.

I saw some colour bar above, but that one doesn't change anything when i drag on it....any advise...am i misssing something?

Help appreciated. Thanks! i really want to make my photo turn out nice...like what all the guru here....

thanks in advance

Hi tantingchin,
Just to check, did you goto Image/Adjustments/Channel Mixer?
If so you should be able to see a output channel and 3 source channels.

Pls check out my short tutorial , and just PM me ur email and I'll send u the action that is mentioned in it.

Cheers!

Thanks ark19.
finally able to get the blue sky out. :D

For those interested in Gimp:
http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Color2BW/#channelmixer

Note: I'm using nikon D70 and picture with Exif cannot be opened by gimp program. Got to remove the Exif info first...

Hi Xsys, there is a bug in Gimp, download libexif-0.6.11.zip
and replaced the libexif-12.dll in the GIMP/bin directory.

After that it should work fine ;)

Hi ark19,
Thanks for the info and link.
It's working fine now :D

I'm having so much fun exploring and editing the IR photos.
Amazing...
