hello guys,

just wanted to verify. me and my friend went to cathay photo (peninsula branch) last saturday and asked for quotes for lenses. a good uncle gave us a quote. but what amazes me is that, cathay photo is giving installment (12 months, 0% interest rate) to all major credit cards. i will be asking this monday to confirm if this not just a promotion or something. did any one of you guys knew about this one? please feel free to comment. :D

Unless you mean "all credit cards", it's a common practice among the well known camera stores in Singapore to offer credit card installments. Other shop charges a 4% transaction fee on top of the total price while Cathay factor the price into the items' price (in which they tend to be more expensive than others unless you asked for cash price).

Do ask for a white list of banks' credit card they accept for 0% installment plans, and also check the number of months for installment. Some banks offered up to 36 months installment.

IIRC, Cathay accepts Visa and Mastercards from DBS, POSB, SCB, UOB and OCBC for installments. Base is 12mths. If not wrong, OCBC is special, can go 24mths, but do verify with Cathay. Also, I think Diners Club credit cards is also available for 0% interest installment - not sure if it's 6 or 12months though.

Note that cards from all other minor issuers like Bank of China etc will not be accepted. Also note that all American Express cards are not available for 0% installments because the label owner, American Express, do not offer this at the moment.

i always buy my photography gears from Cathay for 12 months installment 0% interest using my citibank cc. i seldom buy expensive gears in cash.
what for if i can buy it in installment without interest, i can use the money for other things :)
