In Tokyo, you should check out fujiya camera in Nakano - just a couple of stations away from Shinjuku.

Camera equipment shopping isn't as good as it was before due to the strengthening Japanese economy. The stores aren't as keen on giving out discounts as they were back in the late 90s.

Hong Kong is a better place for bargains.

i heard that there's this building where many shops sell discontinued camera stuff (esp. bodies) for rock-bottom prices! anyone knows where?

Check out Bic Camera (also mentioned on Phil Ono's website)... think they have weekly promotions and maybe just what you need.
