Just got the F1n yesterday and tested a roll in it.. if it still works, I will bring it for the Mount Rajini trek in Indonesia in June.... meanwhile, A1 will be a Spare...of mostly for street photography..

Congrats! I think this is one of the toughest camera around. Hope it serves you well. If it doesn't work anymore you could use it to hammer nails.

Just a note on the naming. F-1n refers to the older update of the original F-1. The camera you have is the newer F-1N.

Well, wrong thread.
Both A1 and F1-N are neither Rangefinders nor compacts.

F1-n does not refer to the older version of F1.

Thread starter was correct.

Old version is simply called F1.

New version called Canon F1-N.

Used to have the FD series of cameras, including the New F-1.

This is what I know original Canon F-1 was from 1971 until 1976. In 1976 Canon the original F-1, which is known as the F-1n on the net nowadays. They then completely redesigned a pro camera in 1981 can still called it the F-1 and is known on the net as F-1N. Canon simply calls it the New F-1.

I believe the TS's version is the New F-1 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games special edition. Strange but I thought all the 1984 special editions came with the AE Finder.

So sorry about that, but why not the forum name this as Rangefinders and Compacts or 35mm purists

I used to use my brothers A-1 long ago in the early 80's. I never liked the electronical feel of the shutter button, feels like there was some delay before the shutter goes. Whether there is a delay I am not sure anymore, decided to get a Nikon FE instead, and I never looked back :-)

Now I am using Canon and Nikon side by side, what an improvement :-)

The later Canon F-1 can be easily identified by checking the battery control knob at the rear: the later improved version F-1 battery control knob springs back to its original position, in the original F-1 the switch doesn't spring back......

One can still get a new old stock Canon F-1New in Guangzhou.....

serious? new time I go china must drop by there to get it...

I really really missed the colours of the Fd lens range. beautiful.
I am now a EOS user...frankly don't come close except for some 'L'.

look for the older L-lenses from the early 1990s e.g. the black series 20-35L and 80-200L. The philosophy is similar to the FD lenses.

Check out Fotografix in Chinatown Point. He might still have some new old-stock F1N.
That said, why you would want to pay for a new one is beyond me since the used ones are so cheap!
