Canon EOS 5D body at $2,900? Where to buy?

Hi, I have been hearing in some threads that the Canon EOS 5D body street price now is about $2,900 - $3,200. Checked the Canon thread on pricing but still seeing $3,800 - $4,200 range.

Anybody which shop is offering the lowest price for the body? I may be getting one next week!

I have tried asking those individuals "in the know" about the $2900 Canon 5D, but with no success.

The best that I have managed is $3150 grey set (but with 12 months shop warranty) at TCW and $3200 grey set (also with 12 month shop warranty) at Orient Photo. The best price for a local warrantied set that I have come across is $3800 at John 316.

i last saw was PnG in peninsula plaza, its either S$2900 grey set or 2nd hand.

Thank for the info. Wonder whether should i go to hong kong and buy back as i don't mind gret set. Right now the street price base on a HK website is around (15,980) = SGD 2,788.51

Well, a friend of mine just bought a 5D (body only) from BKK at A.V. Camera. Very easy to get to, as its near the end of the BTR line at Saphan Taksin. I went with him. It cost 68,800 baht ( divide by exchange rate 23baht to S$1 est. = S$2991). Minus 7% VAT rebate, you pay only S$2991 - S$209 = $2781.
The owner of the shop is very helpful, service is excellence and did meticulous tests to ensure the product is OK. It comes with Canon Thailand warranty.
The shop is more reliable than those in Fortune Tower or MBK.
I got myself a 40D (body only) and after VAT rebate is S$1569. Its a steal.

For me, it wouldn't be worth the saving. The grey sets in Singapore should at least covered by a one year shop warranty, in which case, you can get it fixed but might take a bit longer than having Canon Singapore do it.
