Hi guys, has anyone done HD video recording on both of these guys? Care to share your comments? Is there any difference since both are shooting on full HD?

Currently only 5dmk2 got manuel setting for video , beside this cam, i will strongly recommend GH1. as its shoot in avchd codec for video.

500d is vry smooth on 720p.. 30fps.. for 1080 it only shoots at 20fps.. erm. exposure control wise theres the exposure lock so by pointing at dark/bright stuff can set exposure.. best if use wif a manual exposure lens i guess.. slightly more control. i got the 500d jus for video, no regrets so far! :)

The 500D video is fine in 30P mode, as crapex says. But you cannot control the depth of field to get out of focus backgrounds because the exposure settings are not adjustable. The 5D2 has a firmware update that allows manual exposure control, so it is much better in this respect. Much more ex as well, of course.

BTW 5D2 also shoots in AVCHD, but for some reason the files carry a .MOV extension so it's not so obvious.

if budget is a problem, get a 500d. so far i record at 30fps, then convert to 25fps, smooth smooth video...
It is simply good enough for me... i practising manual focus... so , we could see bokeh object :)

Just to note the DSLR video also have its own limitation, advise not to pan to shoot moving object..
if you really need camcorder style. why dun u try Panasonic GH1.. the spec for video is much more higher and can contiuously focus;)

I'm curious what's the price of GH1 like now. Anyone? I'm aiming for the 5D man..already halfway there to getting one! YippEe!! :bsmilie:

I have a 500D, shot a couple of short clips in 720P, the quality is good. Not try 1080 yet as it is only 20fps.
