Canon 400D + EFS 17-85 IS USM lens

I'm about to purchase a Canon 400D (body only) bundled with Canon's EFS 17-85 IS USM lens. In Australia at the moment and there is a cashback promotion by Canon so the above will cost me S$1950 (after GST rebate which i get back when i fly back to Spore). Is this a good price?

I understand the Canon 400D body alone is about S$1400 in Spore. How much is the EFS 17-85 lens? If the total package is the same in Spore then i'd rather buy it in Spore for warranty reasons (but i seem to recall the Canon Spore website had these lens with an RRP of S$1229).

Any advice is appreciated.

IIRC, the 17-85 mm lens costs slightly more than $1K in S'pore, so $1950 is a good price for both body & lens. The price difference should be around S$500.

I believe the warranty is applicable in Australia only, so you would have to fork out money should you need repairs here within the first year. However, $500 is plenty to pay for most repairs. I would say the chances of having to pay more than $500 for repairs within the first year are very low.

However, ultimately, you will have to make your own decision.

if you're willing to spend a little bit more, why not get the 24-105 f4L. it comes with A$500 cashback now. it has a longer focal length (albeit not as wide) and is weather sealed.

You may wish to check further on the cash-back rebate thingy...if it's a mail-in rebate, you will need an australia bank account & address for Canon Australia to mail the cheque to you.

I would say there are pretty good deals around...I saw the 17-40L going for A$850 (after mail-in rebate)

it looks like u need to supply the address and account details to get the cashback offer. the 17-40L has $350 off =O

I think that combo can be found in Cathay Photo.

I went to Cathay Photo to make some purchases. I saw a foreign couple having their hands on that combo.
