Can we still get 5D brand new in Singapore?

Anywhere in Singapore still selling new 5D body? I don’t need the 10 MP of the sony alpha, and the 5D has lower noise at high ISOs.

try the smaller shops, they may be stuck with old 5D stocks. but then again, how would you know if these are not well-taken care of units that have been cleaned up and re-packaged? most second-hand units are still in good working order and a lot cheaper, why the need for a brand new unit?

Mainly because I don't really know what to check when buying a used unit. For example, how to check for dead pixels?

ey..in six million pixels..what's a few dead ones?
good thing about KM is that the camera actually re-mapped the dead pixels it detects.
i want a second hand 5d...been searching around for a while...quite hard.

dead pixels won't be your main worry because you're not using the lcd to view your subject, only for review and to see your settings. you can force a shot with the lens cap on, and when you review the pic, dead pixels will show up as bright spots on the lcd.

the only issues will be how used/ abused the camera was - cosmetics are one thing, the internal workings are another. its all hit or miss really, but between that at a cheap price and possibility of a supposedly-new unit from those small shops, i know which i'd choose.

i was walking around lucky plaza basement and saw a KM 5D box on the window display. forgot wat is the shop name, its on the first "alley" when u enter lucky plaza... enter lucky plaza, turn left all the way

i was looking for a screen protector once and a sales guy quoted me a stupid price after speaking to his colleague/ boss in hokkien. just because i don't look chinese doesn't mean i'm not and i'd be careful about the source of their products there, not all are bad nor all shops are dishonest, just that ppl i know in this industry tell me all kinds of stories of how they have personally pocketed the difference by passing off a used product as new. so its possible, especially in such places where inventory control is probably weak at best...

so a second hand 5d from a CSer would probably be much more reliable than paying premium for a supposedly new one from such shops...

alot of camera shops their sales attitude are so bad that sometimes i hate to walk into them. just window shopping. i only talked to those who approached me to ask what i am looking for. think new 5D still got a number of pieces left ba.. need to hunt n ask

I suggest you re-think your idea. If I'm looking for a DSLR now, I'd go for the A100. If you are particular about noise at high iso then I believe you shoot at such setting. Then a Canon 350D should be your best bet.

10MP is a bless even if you need or not. Servicing the camera is a concern if you get a 5D now. I think that is a real concern if you seriously getting a 5D. There might be a time when the 7D or 5D spare parts will no longer be available a few years down the road.

Hmmm. I agree with our bros. Better to get a second hand from a fellow CSer than to get from Lucky Plaza. Not gonna trust them. I saw the one at Audio House as well, but i think the price is a bit crazy. Imagine the A200 there is selling for $1200 or $1299 still.
