Hi Everyone
(Nikonian, Sonyese, Canonese, Leicaian, Olympusih, Panasonican, Fujian, Minoltaen and etc)

I am newbie whom have just recently join the clubsnap and the Sony family two days ago.
Have bought the F828 recently from a dealer and Just wanna to ask all the Sonyese 3 questions.
a) Whether if the SONY Tele converter VCL-HGD1758 and wide-angle converter VCL-HGD0758 can be fix into F828 or not.
b) Can the SONY Marco Len VCL-M3358 combine together with Tele converter VCL-HGD1758 in order to take long distance MARCO photo.

Reason for asking is because there is no brochures or any indication (from Sony) to show that it is suitable/comparable to fix to F828, nor does the tele, wide angle converter is part of the Sony F828's accessories as announce.

c) Is there a SONY photo session, chit-chat session on skill, knowledge sharing, lobang & etc or a Sony F828's clan whom meet up to take photo at weekend together?

Please advise.

Hi and welcome to the Club. I think the 828 is a great cam even though lots of people complain abt its "defects". Would love to get it some day...

You may want to try Infrared photos too. You can check out the other Sony thread on that topic.

hihi, welcome welcome to the Sony family :)
I'll attempt to answer your questions.

a) The sony convertors, wide and tele can fit onto the F828, but some advise against using them as they add additional weight to the camera, and with the movable lens, it may not be such a good idea to mount such weght on to it. However, you can always support the convertors using your hands. In a nutshell, they will fit and can be used carefully.

b) I have no idea about this...maybe not possible since the Tele lens is kind of big.

c) Feel free to organize one here :)

Recently a fellow 828 user (can't remember whom) took some fantastic macro shots using a combination of the teleconverter and macro lens. Think he was able to focus the subject from a distance of 16 inches away, resulting in some very close-up shots.

Why don't we arrange shooting and meetup session for all 828 users, so that many more queries (that I myself have some) could be asked and answered?

count me in. I have not taken macro sine I brought my F828. Sure is a good suggestion meetup. For me I have taken many many photos from F828. Take a look at mu KOREA pix, is cool

That a great ideas !!! Count me in too.
We can exhange skills, ideas, know-how knowledge, and meet up all
the F828's "Jiang Hu" blood brothers, blood sisters.
So this will be the 1st ever F828 "Wu Ling Da Hui" (Pugilist Meeting) :D

Great. Seems that we have quite a few 828 owners who are in favor of a meet up shoot and share session. Any suggestions on the venue and date?

i also use the macro + teleconverter lens setup.. the inspiration came to me at work...

i use it with the f32x flash... what a heavy monster...... but it is worth the weight...

Can imagine what a monster it must have been. So how were the quality of the images from the use of this lethal combination?

It is great.. you can get further away than the stipulated 16 inches that you can with just the macro lens...

and with the flash and bounce card, can get great lighting...

thinking about where to go tomorrow.. botanic gardens, macritchie or AH..

Hi Kimedora

Have view your website on Marco photo.
The photos are impressive and well taken.
Wow, you have an impressive "Firepower" for your F828. :D
Equivalent to SAF's M16 carrying M203 grenade launcher with Sniper Optical Scope.

For all the F8**/F7**/ or others and Kimedora, KCBox, Snowspeeder, ricleo
grandmasters, any gathering ? Do let me know.

Guess we should create a new Thread calling all the Sonyers elite to form a "Sony Platoon".

Can owners advise on the magnification of the Sony Macro Lens, as compared to using the 828 itself to do macro?

Are the Sony macro lens actually what other brands call close-up filters? I bought a set of Hoya +1, +3 and +4 with a case for about $40 in Hong Kong. Singapore can't be that far off either. If they are the same, wouldn't getting the regular flavours like Hoya be cheaper? I noticed Sony price their filters like B+W. The only problem is the Sony filters don't appear to have the quality of B+W.

Filters are different from macro lens. I've got a hoya +4. Hardly any difference when I place it on my 828 lens, which already has some macro function. Hence, I may need the macro lens which cost about $350 in the market.

Sorry this is getting confusing. Are we talking about Tele Conversion lens here?

VCL-HGD1758 = Teleconverter
VCL-M3358 = Macro Lens

Both shoudl be in the region of $350 - 400

Just to clarify...so how about using just the macro lens? Is there significant improvement in terms of image magnification as compared to using the 828 alone which can go as close up to 20 mm from the intended subject?
Needed to know, so that I could justify my future purchase of the macro lens! ;)

snowspeeder.

I can't find anything from the model number you gave, neither could I find an actual macro lens from Sony. From what I know, wideangle lens can be broken up and the bottom part is simply a magnification lens similiar to the close-up filters.
