can ratio flash be used for 5d/7d?

bought a sony HVL-F56 flash today, read the instruction manual..it says ratio flash although can select in menu but no use in sony alpha cameras. is this true for 5d/7d as well?

Yes... this function was disabled for the KM DSLRs... it used to be avaiable for the film cameras... somehow KM never dealt with the flash gremlins and now lags behind Nikon and Canon, and in particular Nikon where wireless flash technology is concerned... u could overcome the problem by selecting the flash to work manually and then alter the distances between flash and subject manually...
