Can I ask...

Thanks fengwei, ur input pretty much gave mi a better idea which camera to get. Lastly, to confirm that K100D is more suitable for IR photography than K10D. Is this true ??

Thanks

You are welcome :)

And for IR photography, it doesn't really matter which camera you use. Both cameras can do IRs equally well (with the use of an IR filter and some post processing):)

Oh no no no, for some funny reason K10D doing IR is very ley chey, I suspect that the IR cut off filter on the K10D is a lot stronger. Everytime I help Snowywolf set WB need to take 10 minutes plus, today I help Dennis set his WB took 3 seconds. =D

Exposure timings on K100D also a lot shorter.

K100D definitely a lot more IR friendly, and I'm not saying this because I'm a K100D user , it's a fact. Canon 400D is also not IR friendly, etc. Some cameras just are more IR friendly.

Also, I don't know how to resolve the funny blue patches that turn up in Snowywolf's K10D when shooting IR.. Usually IR is just monotone, white with shades of pink/yellow/sepia depending on how good your WB is, but hers has blue patches in the sky?!

So much for the K100D? I paid less than $800 for my new K100D body. At the time (before OP), local shops were selling it for about $1050 for the kit..

whoops salah'ed. 1.1k at MSC 31/10/06

Well, I guess you just didn't know how to set it, not because it's very difficult to set. I've seen some K10D users made some IR photos w/o any problem at all, and by their experiences, it's just as easy.

I'm not very familiar with IR stuff, so maybe I'm wrong ...

Yar, I'm not really familiar with how exactly to set WB on K10D, but funny thing is that it is definitely not as sensitive, my and Dennis' exposures about f/8 4 seconds, Snowywolf's had to do like 20+ seconds, haha.

So would it be better to wait for K100D super if i'm intending to get one??

It is always nice to have additional features, but all depends on your needs. If you are in no hurry i would say wait for the K100D super.:) Most K100D users here are quite happy with their cameras tho.;)

sorry for my ignorant, what is IR?

Infrared photography, you put a filter , usually Hoya R72 over the lens and it gives you kinky pictures, like these:

If you get K100D you should try IR, one more thing to do in Singapore. :)

Those are really cool. I'm getting a K100D again just for the IR thing I think. Will ask you guys to teach me how to make those beautiful IR photos ;p

OIC, thanks for the enlightening, so you take great pics because you use the hoya?? I've see pics taken by you with nice sunset, do you use hoya or you just did some adjustment to the cam?

Hahaha, BBB!

Ok I think Dennis should be quite familiar with the IR thing already, so if you get K100D after I fly off to London can ask him. =D

No la, R72 only gives pictures like this:

See my IR gallery

Very unique effect, grass are white, skies details are brought out, I don't really know how to put it, maybe you will get the idea when you view my shots.

For sunset I generally use a lot of GND and HDR blending.. Have mentioned it somewhere here before, but if you're interested I can mention what it is again! =)

aiyoh, the terms you use make me blur liao, what is GND and HDR blending? (pls elaboorate) I have seen your pics just now, very nice!!

GND is a filter, graduated neutral density filter.
Basically it looks like a piece of this:

There are of course many variations, but the idea is that the filter allows you to.. decrease the tonal range of the scene. Meaning it darkens the sky while allowing you to expose for the shadows, something like that. Hope you get the idea.

HDR is another thing, involving combining many exposures of the same scene and blending them ttogether such that all details in highlight/shadow are retained.

Just got a K100D back, and a kit lens ;) Now I need to get a 52mm IR filter first. Wonder where I can get it?

I'll ask Dennis to show me how to do this IR thing later :D

Cheers!

Wah so fast got another camera. Welcome back to the K100D fraternity. But I'm wondering why you didn't get the K100D Super now that it's available.

If you're looking for the filter and don't want to go down to the shops, can try this seller
