Can DiMAGE A1 focus well in Low light ?

check through the spec, it doesn't come with AF-assist lamp on Camera or external flash.

DiMAGE 7 or 7Hi owner does ur Dimage having problem focusing in low light area or dim indoor area?

Well, Altho the Dimage 7 series dun have AF Assist... I think they do automatically switch the preview to b/w , would that help? I dunno... experts?

I would presume it can focus better than the 7Hi.

How well can the 7Hi focus in low light? Well, I went to JBP and went to the exhibit where they showcase norturnal birds in perpectual lowlight. The EVF switched to B&W automatically (of course the final pic result is in colour) and was only a tad slower in focussing, perhaps 0.5 second instead of 0.1 second. Those who have seen the exhibit would know how dark the place is. The camera fared even better than my other digital camera that had AF Assist which lead me to think that AF Assist is really a bunch of bull.

The only reason why my pics didn't turn out well was because I didn't have a tripod, thus camera shake plus the longer shutter speed required for the low light made the pictures very blur. I really wonder how the A1 would fare with a handheld shot in these conditions with IS!

I'm sure not any less than the 7Hi. The A1 is the 7Hi's replacement!

A1 selling abt $1600++.

I had try A1 aly, Viewfinder make me feel very giddy. AF slower then 10D but i think faster than any non-SLR prosumer cam except S602 which is the fastest I think. Hope this will help

A bit hard to find. Prosumer Minoltas aren't easy to sell since the 7Hi and it's siblings gave a fair bit of problems.

FYI...the A1 does not have focus assist.....(focus assist with lamp ...red or white light.... is old stuff i guess)....

The A1...uses something like night vision type i.e. ....... if you bring it into a dark place....the LCD will become a B&W....LCD....i think similar to those in the Sony....

You can see in almost total darkness....and the LCD will increase its gain when you depress the shutter button half way...and the LCD will have a slightly brighter image where the AF will lock.....and the image capture can be completed...
