Camera shop in AMK HUB

Hi everyone, just to share my experience trying to get a Canon EF-S 60mm over the weekend. Had gone through these pages and the B&S but nobody selling the EF-S 60 mm so, browse the pricelist provided here to find out the prices quoted at various shops and all. If not for the price list given in this forum, I would have been slaughtered and all. The shop at AMK Hub beside the escalator actually quoted me $900 for a piece.:nono: Of course after checking out the list I am aware of the price at other shops. So, I would like to thank those that contributed to the list without which the purchase will not be possible.......and I still have my neck intact rather than being chopped by some unscrupulous vendor. By the way, finally bought it at $725 (incl gst) at another shop. Thank you.

that shop u mentioned is not in AMK Hub la...(unless they shifted)

They have 2 shops. One in AMK Hub and the other is in the AMK centre.

Bought my canon A720is there recently. Didn't get the feeling that the staff were friendly. The part-timers manning the canon booth outside the shop were far better. Think the promo is over now, so the booth will be gone too and you will have to face the guys inside the shop.

I think it is MS Color @ 3rd level, beside a computer accessories shop. The staffs at AMK Hub is less friendly then those at the original shop (beside the S11 kopishop).

Yup..i finally bought it at the old shop besides the S11. In fact, i wanted to go there as I had called earlier but went to the wrong place thinking that they had shifted to AMK Hub. After hearing the price, I sense something is not right so I take a walk to to oled shop and tru enough they are still there and thus didnt waste anymore time and just purchase the lense.

By the way, this is just to share my virgin experience in buying a lense. I guess, with the forum it just make it easier for virgin like me. Thank you once again.

Dealing with them for close to 15 years, M_S_ color does not neccessary mean cheap. They are resonable and fair.

Of course, if you are new, they may carrot . .and this happens to any shop. E.g. CP is expensive to some, but i can get prices lower than MS Color at times. John 3:16 is always fair, but they also carrot me once.. a big one that i never return to see Samuel for the past 7 years.

So in SG, kam-cheng or relationship is the way to get cheaper stuff for photography. Either you go pre-owned or if buying new..

I have known Mr Loh and Florence from 1990 ever since I started out on photography. THey are nice. After I bought my SLR in 1993, I only called once in a while to check prices for friends and the prices they quoted me are reasonable. My first digicam was the Canon S2IS followed by the Fuji E550 and now the Fuji S6500FD. I have continued to recommend friends there and the prices quoted to me are only from Mr Loh and Florence. I dun get quotes from the rest bec they tend to be higher.

Once when both of them not around, the staff realised that it was me and tell me "Er, better not quote to you, Boss and Lady boss always give you 'special' price"

It was funny as I needed a quote urgently and nobody dare to quote.

i am still quite puzzled why AMK hub, which is quite near to the old shop.

Places like Tampines, Clementi or Yishun need camera shops like them.

I bought all my stuff from MS Color, i like both shop (the staff gets rotated anyway).. some frens that i introduced simply swear never to return... haa talk about irony!

Making frens and getting a good deal is important but simply new and those whom had not done homework can be in lousy end of a deal. Thanks giant for highlighting this and I am glad that u did your homework. I simply bring the printout of the price to the shop to negotiate.. haaa.. you wouldn't believe how much easier it was to close a deal.. they then are sure that u dun bargain without an idea...

Its a norm in real life.. when i look at it .. i just smile about it.. anyway.. my father bought many gears from that shop 15 years back. He is gone now but I think he would still be running in that shop buying gears. Now MS Colors is very established and they have got good stuffs... maybe just a couple of new stuff or happened that someone is in a not so nice mood... haaa.. still i say, you can and should try them again......
