Hi Guys. Just curious how you all clean your camera and lens. I just use lens cleaning paper,Kodak lens fluid, a blower, static brush and Micro cloth. Some of you use a lenspen or SpeckGRABBER how effective is it?

I m more interested in DIY 'Sensor Cleaning'. :D Seen some over google search but have anyone here tried it before??

for sensor: i use blower and cottonbud

I use a static charged brush, very easy, quick, for decent resuult

yes cottonbud, no solution used. you are cleaning a piece of glass filter on top of the ccd, not on the ccd itself. but try at your own risk then.

its best to use cotton buds sold at pharmacies, tat don't leave tiny strings/fur/cotton thingy when used.

But I assume a brush is safer, because it's softer, and we apply less pressure

some said brush may have some impurity like grease or gum on top of them, so may not be recommended for sensor cleaning, you may try to brush it on filter to see whether it leave any stain or not.

get those brush ladies used for powdering. i doubt ladies are stupid enough to buy brush with oil or stains? ;p

I have a Nikon 0.63x Wide Angle Lens WC-E63 for coolpix 885. There is fungus inside. Anyone out there has the wrench to open the glass. Only the front element seem to be efected.

sorry am to dslrs and im wondering why i keep reading fungus this and fungus that... is it mean, dslrs and lenses are prone to fungus? is it oso y lots of mention of dryboxes and such?

sorry, please enlighten a newbie! thanks!

Basically any lens can be affected by fungus. Specially in our asian enviroment. Drybox basically reduces moisture in air which makes fungus growth stop or reduce.

For Lens I seldom clean them unless needed. I use Kodak Lens solution clean them only once a year other time Lenspen. All the time I have filter on so after every outing I clean the filter and air blow the rest of the lens.

SLR body I only use lightly dam microcloth and wipe the body. Let dry then back to drycabin for 3 days. For CCD I only check them air blow only.

I am switching all my filter to B+W. I found HOYA filter don't last as long. I have HOYA filter, HMC, top coarting ware off fast after many outing in 1 year.

ic ic, thanks for that. whewww good thing i stumbled into this, otherwise would have gone on without knowing about the risks of such... now haf to get a dry box/cabi to protect gear

so are lens more prone to fungus? what about e cam bodies?

wedgehammer any item if it's damp and is kept in a dark place will grow fungus. If you are on tight budget use a tupperware container with silca gel. Just make sure to change the silca gel when it turns colour.

Good brushes are soft and expensive, they should be fine for lenses.

If there are purities clean the brush with acetone before use.

prevention is key. i switched from a box to cabinet because changing the silica gel/ beads was becoming a headache. plus the cabinet is zero-maintenance and you can set your desired rH. even if you get caught in the rain the cabinet will dry out everything overnight. if fungus does grow i would suggest you send it to shops that can do this instead of diy unless you know how to. generally lens cloth/ tissue and blower works well enough. i haven't had to use any liquids yet.

some website recommended that, sometime may need to clean up to 3 or 4 times. Then sweep it on clear glass/filter to see it leave any stain or not, if yes, repeat the cleaning process. But do this at your own risk.

Suggest you do a search on dry boxes & dry cabinets. Topic has been raised/discussed multiple times liow.
