Camera and Lens Selection

of all the things to think about before a business trip.. i spent 2 agonizing daze
thinking about what camera to bring, what film to use....

at first it was my m3 with 50/f1.5 summarit lens. I had previously brought all
my other m(s) except my m3, m4, CLE and IIIf out of the country.
And this was the M3's turn.

I like the f1.5's aperture but was put off by the f1.5 rendering wide open
plus overall size of the beast. While smaller than a DSLR, it would be a
problem putting everything in a carry bag. (I almost never check-in, even for this Pakistan trip).

Then I thought about putting the Goggled Summaron on the M3 or the
M4 with Summicron 35/f2. Then I was reminded that I had once brought
the bulky Rolleiflex TLR and had lots of fun. In the end I brought the CLE with the 40/f2.
The m3 and m4 Next time....

Next was film choice, it was basically the Polypan F 50 pushed to iso 100.
Or the precious Tri-X or the Fomapan 400. In the end I chose the
Fomapan 400 and decided to push it to 400 which I had previously used only at iso 200.

So here I am, with fomapan 400at400 on the Minolta CLE and the M-Rokkor 40/f2.

Do you guys agonize over trivia things like dis ?

My travel decision is easy. Ricoh GR1s, since it can go into my shirt pocket, it is 28mm and perfect for streets.

bro, a little off topic - but where in Pakistan are you going?
I have been there a couple of times. More in the cities. What you need there is something for street obviously.
But once you are out in the country (which is absolutely beautiful) I wonder if you need something which is a little more WA than the 40mm.
Just my view.

I solved my dilemma by bringing everything for 4 months. And to avoid paying higher prices for film, I brought a giant bag of different films.

I share in your agony. Solution. Sell all by one camera + lens... problem solved! :)

i used to do that until i kept buying the same Leica CL and the same Olympus XA
like 2 or 3 times..... now i rationalize it by telling myself that film cameras are cheaper
to own than previously, and unlike a wife, i don't need to be monogamous with my
cameras or film, of coss i justify it by shooting a lot :)

here's a disturbing contact sheet from 2 weeks back,

Fortunately I don't have that problem because I only use one camera now, but I will always be unsure to bring colour film or not when I travel.
