Hi,

I recently acquired a Mamiya RB67 Pro SD and would like to make long exposure shots. But i was told that a special cable release must be used for it's mirror lock up and shutter. Does anyone know where i could get hold of this cable release? Hope to hear from fellow users soon :)

Cheers,
Jason

i usually get my stuff from ebay or keh.com

RB67 is using double action cable release, if you really can't find it, not to worry.
can just use two cable release, one attach to the shutter release button and one attach to the lens.

remember to turn the mirror lock up knob when you want to do mirror lock up, depress the cable release on the body FIRST, the mirror will flip up, now you can than depress the cable release attach to the lens to fire the lens leaf shutter.

or you can also just use one cable release, attach it to the lens and use your finger to trigger the shutter release bottom on the body.

hope this help.

Hi Flipfreak and Catchlights,

Thank you for the replies. I've tried using two cable releases as mentioned but it fires off as normal...not a long time exposure that i'm trying to achieve.

The mirror-lock knob on the lens seems to push itself up when i depress the cable release. But it still doesn't activate the mirror lock. Is it faulty or am i missing out on something?

The shutter-release knob works normally with the second cable release.

Perhaps i should bring to a shop for further advise?

Cheers,
Jason

Btw, does ur lens have a 'T' (timer)/ 'N' (normal) at the lens barrel area? If it does, push the button till u can see a 'T' word. That means that the lens is set for long time exposure mode. On the other hand, your shuttle release cable must have a locking system just by pushing & turning a screw knob or some kind. This will set the cable for long timer exposure as long as you don't release that locking knob once shuttle is being pressed.
As you release the knob from the shuttle release cable, the trigger handle will pop up & at the same time, the lens will then closed it's leaf shuttle (due to 'T' was chosen). Hope you know what I mean. Good luck & have fun.

Yes, as Spectrum mention, you need to set the mirror-lockup knob to The Red Dot position, pull up the knob and turn.

once the mirror-lockup knob is set, it will disengage the shutter from trigger by the body,

so you depress the shutter release button to flip the mirror up first,

then you depress the cable release attach to the lens attach to the body after mirror had already flip up

here the details instruction taken from the RB67 manual, read page 29 (manual page, not doc page) RB67 Pro S User Manual

Hi Catchlights and Spectrum,

Thank you for the advise. I brought it to Camera Workshop yesterday and a customer taught me how to use it. There's also a video here on youtube:

Guess i'm too used to 35mm format so need to get some getting use to. ;p Can't wait to get out and start shooting!

Cheers!
