Buying Sony NEX-6 from overseas (Adorama / B & H)

Highly unlikely. The NEX7 is still the higher-end model.

In all aspects, NEX7 is only higher megapixel, better looking and nothing else to keep the title. Nex6 has higher usability, better focus, more functions including wifi and apps, better ergonomics with new placement of buttons, better tilt screen, cheaper RRP etc.

That is why i am almost certain that Nex7 will suffer big depreciation in price.

wrong on all counts. the NEX-7's usability with the Tri-navi still trumps the NEX-6. c'mon. from the pictures you can see that it only has one dial to control the settings. so at best, you have only 2 command dials.

and WiFi? c'mon. only gear heads will love that.

and i seriously don't get what you mean by better focus, better ergonomics. new placement of buttons etc? it's a direct copy of the NEX-7 with one less command dial.

Right..

Nex7 is good for its high MP and Tri-navi.
none of the other Nex cameras can do those mentioned.

If you dont need it.. the new Nex will be better for you.

Unfortunately , nex7 users now didn't have any choice when they were looking for a better nex with built in evf and adequate dials then. People buying into nex now would find nex6 more attractive perhaps.

Lordy . . . how'd we ever manage to get by without wi-fi during the film era? :what: And will "better focus" guarantee sharp shots on MF lenses?

Seems like a few among us would do better to wait until the NEX-13 comes out next April 1. Rumor has it that it'll wipe your a$$, and can turn itself on and take pictures automatically whenever it's placed near a hotel window or atop a dinner table. That'll surely leave more time for reading and arguing over spec sheets. ;)

In the meantime, I'll be holding my breath for that big price drop on the NEX-7. I'd love to have a second copy cheap. :D

For all the debate is worth, let's see the priceof Nex7 in December.

you mean Brand New or Second Hand?

if you think that a "body-only" unit that costs around $1799 to purchase will drop to $900 in december after just a 1 year run.. think again. that's a HUGE price drop.

The price difference (after adding in shipping, GST, admin charges, etc) of getting from B&H and Adorama, compared to getting a local set in Singapore is almost negligible... I would say you won't save more than $50 - $100 max while going the long route from the US... Plus there'll be added worries that B&H or Adorama might just ship you a returned set, which may or may not have problems with the unit.. If, touch wood, it happens, you won't be able to know nor do anything about it till a few weeks to a month later when it arrives in SQ...

Even then, no international warranty, so you also won't be able to do anything about it.. Except maybe to kick yourself for wasting money...

The only real benefit for getting a Sony NEX US-set is that the local sets are region-locked for PAL systems, and will not allow you to shoot in 24p... The US-sets, being NTSC-locked, will allow you to do that...

So unless shooting in 24p video is really important to you, you're better off spending that few tens of dollars difference, and save the anxiety of crossing your fingers and praying whilst waiting for your set to arrive from the US...

Thanks GeneKoh
Yup, I've set my mind on a local set now :)

I'm hoping that the body + kit lens won't go beyond $1400 here. Also waiting for the Nex 6 pricing on DigitalRev and in Malaysia before I consider the U.S sites since we've already known their prices.

Is DigitalRev a US site or local?
