Guys, i am looking at a camera at ebay, wanting to buy but need to understand first.

That camera is over $1000, do i need to pay tax? Comes with lens as well. Paying thru paypal so address is there.

Not very sure how this works as never buy from ebay before.

Tax is pay to the custom of SG, so depends how the item will be shipped to you, the shipping agency will collect gst from you on behalf, before allowing you to collect your item.

Non-dutiable and non-controlled goods imported by post with a total CIF value exceeding S$400 will incur GST on the entire invoice value.

For a parcel with its commercial invoice attached, SingPost will deliver the parcel to you and collect GST on delivery.

For a parcel without its commercial invoice attached, the parcel will be retained by ICA. You will be informed through a Letter of Notification from SingPost to collect the parcel at Singapore Post Centre personally or through an authorised representative. You or your authorised representative is required to produce the Letter of Notification and the invoice during collection. Alternatively, the parcel can be delivered to you if you fax the required letter and invoice to ICA at 6842 7606 and authorise SingPost to deliver the parcel at a chargeable fee.

once you cross a thousand, unless it is a rare item that cannot be found in SG, forget it. i kenna once before. ended up paying close to $400 in GST before SingPost released my parcel.

in any case, the USD-SGD exchange rates are not in our favour these days. :cry:

Avoid buying from E-bay if it's an expensive item. Save you all the headache. There are good online shopping stores, such as Amazon

japan or USA etc...Since you're going to buy from oversea, it's a good idea to know the exchange rate, Credit cards exchange rate
