Anyway, thanks for the precious inputs here, at least now, have some ideas, what to look for.....

Hi all again, almost forget to ask, for the following tripods, which ball head, 3 way head or Gear head is best suited for the following mentioned tripod.

Gitzo - G1224 model
manfrotto 190Pro

Beside, what is the difference between a normal ball head, 3 wayhead and Gear head? :dunno:

BTW, how much does the manfrotto 329 3 WAY HEAD cost?

All tripod heads do the same thing, allow movement of the camera while mounted temporarily on a fixed spot(tripod). Which tripod head you use depends largely on what kind of photography you do. Ball heads allows fast adjustments and I think people use it for animal / sports photography and maybe general photography. 3 way heads are slower in adjustments but allows fairly fine tuning of angles. Good for landscapes and such. Gear heads(I'm using the Manfrotto 410) are most useful for architectural, landscape photography as they allow really fine tuning of angles but they really slow you down. Basically 3 way heads and gear heads function similarly. Difference is that with the 3 way head you have to lock each adjustments in place after making the adjustments. This in my opinion is less precise than the gear heads which doesn't require the user to lock the settings. Just turn the knobs to the desired position. So it really depends on what you do.

Also, when choosing a tripod head, which tripod you're using is not as critical. Manfrotto heads will work on Gitzo tripods and vice versa. What you should be considering is mentioned above, the type of photography you do and the weight of your equipment, e.g. your camera body with the heaviest lens you have or intend to get in the future. Always get the heaviest tripod you can carry.
