Hi

This is the first year I'm venturing seriously into videography, hence have not really visited Broadcastasia exhibition before (have been focusing only CommunicAsia in the past due to my job).

As I'm looking for some good accessories to go with my shooting, can anyone advise whether we can find good deal in that event? Especially those who have visited this exhibition in the past. Thanks.

PS. Looking for adaptor, software, video light, video lens and maybe braces etc.

Regards

Normally prices are pretty fixed even in these exhibitions....you can forget about visiting broadcast asia if you're only looking for good deals for small item products. At times, you may be disappointed to find only huge racks of equipments that may cost usually more than US$20k. :P

Been visiting Broadcast Asia since the mid 1990s. :D

Well, u can make yr way to NAB2009 in Las Vegas! That is where the action is buddy :p

Thanks for the note. Seems that there's not much value waiting for this exhibition to grab some of my stuff. Thanks.

Wah, good suggestion! but all my supposedly "good deal" saving $ goes into the air-ticket, hotel, travelling..., not much "good" already. Any way, maybe there's a possibility to visit US during that period... will KIV this option. Thanks bro.

Hi DXNMedia

One more thing, will there be any "good stuff" to gather from Broadcastasia? Should we as serious hobbist be looking out for anything that will help us in the shoot? Since you've been visiting this exhibition all these years, maybe can give some good advise/tips. Thanks.

yeah...NAB is the best... ;)

I remember in one of the years for Broadcast Asia (think it's 1998), that was the best exhibition......all major manufacturers where there, and there were lots of products on display, etc....but subsequently all the exhibitions were quite disappointing.

Nevertheless, do pop down to go look at some new products & check out who carries what products....Expandore isn't the only dealer like what most people may think....there are better & cheaper suppliers out there...

Yes...brochures & tech infos...In fact, i religiously collect them after every show and keep them for a few years as my reference for products specs.

Also, it is good to touch base with suppliers & dealers, and most of the time, I meet up with old friends from the industry too...

Thanks for the note. Do you have any good dealer (besides Expandore) to recommend so as to keep a look out during the show? I've been finding Expandore not exactly carrying all the stuff I've been looking out for, and they are not even aware of some of them when I mention. Their pricing is quite good, but the Sales person is not that pro, IMHO (they even recommend some accessories that I found out later via internet that is really not up to par, very disappointed but was glad that I didn't follow. Guess that I have to do my homework even before approaching them in the future). Thanks.

Thanks. Seems that I will have to "work hard" for both CommunicAsia (for my job) and Broadcastasia (for my hobby) this year ;p. Thanks.

PM me on what you need and exactly what you are looking for. I should be able to direct you to my regular suppliers if available locally.

Thank you very much. Will PM you once I've completed my research. Appreciate your help. Thanks again.

Broadcast Asia is an eye opening for new technologies.
It is sure worth a visit even if you are not purchasing those higher end expensive equipment.
As wat Dixon mentioined.. u will be able to find some other company selling some industrial grade equipment which may fit wat you want for the video production market.. besides expandore, some company like Sensys and LSV which u may look out for.. they may carry some products that you want.. (just not sure if they exhibit this year.. :dunno:)

Hi Sundazz

Thanks for the info, will keep a lookout for such company. I guess I will google some of them prior to the show so that I can be more informed when visiting their booth. Will keep a lookout for good stuff. Thanks.

I highly recommend Broadcast Asia - the equipment on show there is simply amazing. Have been going for quite a number of years already, and each time I always run out of time faster than I run out of things to see.

interesting. Kind to share some of the new technology that you have seem at the exhibition.
Was very disappointed at the show. do let me know if i miss out anything.

Actually, video technology have been at quite a standstill.
No new toys, no new gears that are simply amazing at all...At least I haven't found any products that will wow me with any new functions or workflow.

If we talk about lights, trend for the last few years have been LED technology.
If we say batteries, Li-ion....IDX, ANton Bauers, etc...nothing new too..
If we say cameras, same old stuff except different new recording formats.
Software technology for broadcast have also been pretty much similar...same old automation stuff, video post, gfx, animation applications...

So to summarize this year's Broadcast Asia...nothing much going on for me, but compared to last year's trade event, this year got slightly more things to see.

I will strongly suggest that the organiser get u to write a few articles on the website and send an articles email to others. at least it will help to educate more about the latest technology...i think you might beat some of the sale staff on product knowledge.

Strongly agree! Perhaps some technology/technique whitepapers to help beef up some of us newbies in this trade will be deeply appreciated.

To me, after searching around for a while, found so few places in Singapore to learn/drill videography technique, buy good gears (at reasonable price) and appreciate/try new technologies. Most of the excitement seems to be overseas. Unlike Photography which has been so established her where i can get a course in PSS at reasonable charge and pick up essential skills, can't find much for videography. Just my 2 cents. Hai...

i must say there are some exhibitor who are there to help you if you need any help with their product. but there are some, who are just there to confuse you hence, you still got to do your own research.
