Bokeh.. is 135mm STF the king of Bokeh lens?

Hi,
Recently after seeing some photos shots from KM 135mm STF, I really like the smooth bokeh..

Looking at my lens collection, my KM 100mm macro should be able to produce a good bokeh as well.. and I compare these 2 shots.. one with f2.8 and the other with f8.

and seem like f2.8 bokeh is smooth as well..

I have a question on the bokeh "quality"...
1. Definition of good "bokeh"..
2. Is the bokeh be smoother at smaller f-stop? Will the STF produce the same bokeh at f8 or f12 as the above photo at f8 setting?

The other lens with great bokeh is the 85mm f1.4.. anyone selling? :)

Interesting.. this one with f8 from the same lens.. and the bokeh is smoother.

Is it due to the distance between the background and focus point? and with smaller f-stop, the distance is smaller for good smooth bokeh?

The question is really subjective since a good bokeh for me may not be a good bokeh for you. It will really depend on the viewer.

For me to say its a good bokeh, the backgroud is blurred in a way where it produces a creamy soft feeling that makes the subject stands out even better.

the reason behind the weird bokeh of picture 3 in the above link is maybe due to the white flowers which in turn produces a different kind of bokeh...

this is just me... ;)

Bokeh from 28-135mm f4-4.5 lens.. not as smooth as beercan or 100mm macro.

Bro, check out the comparison of bokeh by 85mm and 135mm on the website below, you will know why 135mm STF is king of bokeh ;)
http://www3.xitek.com/testreport/xitek/135stf.htm

you don't see obvious line between different "shade" of background.

For really close up shot like the flowers, it may not really make that much differences, especially the background is not very complex. The STF seem to really shine on complex back ground and able ot give smooth bokeh, while other will be deem as a bit "noisy".

i still prefer the 135mm STF bokeh. Smoother and really makes your subject stand out...i think sulhan has posted a picture of his daughter using the lens...and I was like wow!

The STF has the best bokeh I should think... Anyway, here is another nice bokeh from another lens... I feel it is easier to judge bokeh by having defocussed highlights like the rays of sunlight streaming through the leaves as in this example...

Firstly, the bokeh comparision is based on different background, thus its not a really valid judgement. Secondly, due to the lens perspective and the optics design, a 28mm at f2.8 , 50mm lens at f2.8, 100mm f2.8 and 200mm f2.8, the bokeh will be slightly different.
YOu will be surprise that telephoto lens even at smaller f-stops etc 5.6 can produce very good bokeh.

For myself, a bad bokeh is something distracting and confuses the viewer concentration of the intended subject.

whao nice bokehs..

heres on..135 stf

Anyone want to guess what lens was used to take this?

In reply to your topic... yes.

1 of the 2 things that make me stick with minolta... (other is 7D body)

taken with 80-400
