 MY DREAM LENS!!!

Dynax 9 cannot use leh,muz up-grade. :what:

I'm sure Minolta is smart enough to provide free upgrade for Dynax 9, at least I hope they are. After all, the professionals are the ones who are expected to buy these lens and Pros use Dynax 9!!

Link seems down. But what upgrade must the Dynax 9 make before it can use the SSM lenses?

Its firmware is upgraded, and that upgrade also includes (so I've been told) all previous upgrades to the 9 (the ones found in the 9ti for example, two new custom functions). The upgrade is included in the price for the SSM lens.

What is exactly a firmware upgrade? I heard lots of times for prosumer digicams, game consoles, even for more expensive cars, but really what do they do in a firmware upgrade? Upgrade the software or change the chip that controls the camera?

Thanks!

P.S. got to the link... looks like the lens heavier than the camera and bigger too..... wow!

U got hardware and software, so firmware is not too hard nor soft :D j/k

Firmware is also software lah, just that it is stored in a chip. No need to change the chip for upgrade, just upload the new version of the software into the camera.

Depends, in many older designs, the firmware is not stored on flash, but on eprom. Those require a physical chip change. Nowadays many device allows a user upload.

Those are the old days liao .. of course, cheaper camera may still use old rom method to keep the manufacturing cost low (who cares about after sales service :D).

Hiee.....

Firmware - "software that belongs to the Firm (company) " that makes that product and they are the only one who have access to and control over!!!!
Hahahah!!!!! :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Software are different as its notmally portable and can be used usually on more than one system/platform.

Where as Firmware is normally hardware specific that controls the system hardware and arechitecture.

rgds,
me
