actually most of the batteries that you buy will come with a little bit of charge... meaning like, you can just put the battery in and u can use already... for testing... heard from someone that most batteries will be charged from factory for some reason i forgot...

den the file number can be brought forward from the previous camera, like i own a F717 den i din format the MS when i port over, so when i use the F828, it automatically start with the continuation of the number, like 1001 on F717, den on F828, it starts from 1002...

I don't think brand new batts come with any charge at all. I recall getting my spare batt which is brand new and there was not a drop of juice in it. I could not even turn my cam on with it. If it comes with some charge, it's definitely used. :nono:

The reason why batteries that come with the camera are partially charged is due to consumer request. They usually wanted to test the camera before purchase. If battery is flat, how can the consumer test? Not all shops have spare batteries lying around to let consumer test.

I think the factory should have tested each battery before shipping, maybe do few minutes charge test, so there should be a few minutes of battery life when you use it for the first time. If the new battery you bought is really dead flat, most likely it's been on the shelves for quite a while, but not necessarily for months, since a short charge wouldn't last for weeks.

Just my thought. ;)

True, the new batts could come with just a few minutes of juice for testing purposes but the guy was saying his comes half charged. Obviously it has been charged and used before isn't it?

Most electrical devices (brand new) that comes with a battery normally does have some power in them, like what pianodancer said. Take for example, computer notebooks, brand new units normally have a new battery with a few mins of charge, just for booting up for buyers to check if its ok before buying. I mean, most of the time when we buy electronic stuff we also do test them before leaving the shop. I know thats how I check my stuff before buying from the shop, save my time from coming back if the darn thing don't work.

Already got mine..hehehehehe.
Bulky but great ergonomics and very fast start-up. Picture quality appears good. The lens is so big that I fear it invites scratches. I am pretty worry of damaging the lens. Other than using the accompanied lens hood which make it even longer, is there any accessory that fits onto the lens that acts as a permanent layer of protection without compromising picture quality? Any advise from brothers out there highly grateful. If there is one, please advise where to buy and what it's called. Thanks.

The best protection for lens come in the form of a filter. Just get one of those Hoya UV filters, cheap and good. If kena scratched, just throw away and buy new one. You better get one soon, before you scratch your lens. That will be painful and costly... and your resale value will plunge straightaway. :sweatsm:

sorry eh.. was away for a short trip.. national day long weekend :D

anyway, when i got the battery, it indicated that there is 60+ mins worth of battery juice.. full charge is abt 210 mins.. so yeah, definitely think its half-charged..

as for the shop.. sigh.. maybe its because its a company quotation, and they delivered it.. so we also dunno that it could be a display set until we actually use it.. by then, too late...

Thanks brother. Bought a skylight filter lens from Peninsula Plaza to protect the lens. Now I feel safe the zoom lens is under covered when I handle this monster. I really enjoy the cam, especially when shooting movie I could use the optical zoom manually...that really make taking movie clips much more appealing :p

My cousin have the intention to get F828 or A2.
What is the price of a new set of F828 and A2 now ? Anyone?

Try Lords Camera at Lucky Plaza (62354605). I have called for a F828 quote recently, less than 1500 after GST. My colleague patronised this shop very often, highly recommended for reasonable price.

As for the battery charge u guys had been discussing. Normally battery manufacturer would charge the battery to full and discharge it for a certain period of time for QC purpose. So it is normal to have some charge in a brand new battery.

After launched for 9 months, the price drops by about $150+ only... good, good...

BTW, I brought my F828 out for a vacation for the first time, and I enjoyed using it tremendously. It's through such experiences that I appreciate the cam more.

1) I put my F828 in an oversized waist pouch which has minimal padding. I usually do not cap my lens but have a UV filter to protect the glass elements. No worries about scratching F828: it's made of solid alloy!

2) I mainly use CF cards to store my images. But whenever I want to shoot candid shots, I would switch to Memory Stick, so that I would segregate these seemingly-nonsense shots with the proper images

3) The superb start-up time allows me to capture some of the most unexpected images. The 7x manual optical zoom lets me to zoom into images without a thought or whisper.

4) The nightshot mode lets me easily capture low-light images at high shutter, e.g. shooting at night on the tour bus.

5) The movie mode lets me capture the entire firecracker scene (yes, I get to experience real firecrackers)
