Tks for that. for some reason I thought it may be cheaper.

go to KaiFeng St, near XiMenTing

Can try this shop too. When I was there, he quoted me a NT7600 for a nikon AFS 35mm f1.8.(Payment by cash)

The shop is near to Taipei MRT station.(about 10 mins walk from the station) and there are almost 20 camera shops or more. Try to shop before 8pm.

Bo Ai Road..

Most of the shop will upfront inform you whether the price is for a grey set. and shops there sell mostly manufacturer warranty. Their system is similar with singapore, first quote always the cash price and credit card, add 2% or more.

Some lenses especially nikon are cheaper over there but if you are shopping for bags and tripod, forget it cos singapore will be much cheaper.

If you are a leica fan, watch out for the leica boutique, which they carry the whole range of lenses from 1950s till now. They even have a LV camera bag. As the shop is too posh, I didn't dare to go out but looking into the window already damn sufficient liao.

That street that everyone is talking about is called "camera street". It's the junction between 博愛路 and 漢口街一段
There are about 25 camera shops in that junction.
The fastest way to get there is not from Taipei Main Station, but from XiMenDing. Exit at station exit 4, you should see a Hi-Life in front of you. Continue walking in that direction for 2 junctions, (you'll pass a mega bank, taiwan corporative bank), at the 3rd you'll be at 博愛路. from there, turn left, and walk on. You'll hit the camera shops soon enough (after passing bodyshop, this glam church (wedding shots done here are FANTASTIC), hello kitty komonya gift shop) when you get greeted by signs proclaiming the sale of canon, nikon, panasonic stuff.

However, that street is mainly for beginners, tourists and generally those who buy once in a while.

The locals prefer to go to one of the well known shops at shilin called 憶華 - address: 台北市士林區福華路151號
The selection of stuff there is greater than almost all of the popular shops at the camera street combined. Of course, they specialise in grey sets. :D The stuff there is ALOT cheaper than Singapore.

On a side note, while you are in taiwan, don't forget to go to KFC, and try their egg tart. Currently they've got 2 new flavours.
They have one of the best egg tarts around, better than any Singapore pastry outlets/boutiques I've tried. :) Singaporeans I've brought there all got hooked to it.

 Time to plan for yet another trip.

I think it is not very cheap over at Taiwan. I went to the camera street near XIMEN DING. There are lots of camera shops but not very attractive. It is hard to find tokina lens too.

Honestly, camera street is not really for the bargain hunter. However, even along the camera street, canon 580ex2 is still cheaper than sg. :D

Remember to ask if its grey set or from distributor. :)
Grey set = no international warranty? I suppose that will be key for my purchase

I heard from from a few folks that its cheaper... guess will take a look when I'm there... trip delayed.. :(

GREAT! I'm looking for nikon lens

Hi all
Just came back from there. I was looking at Nikon stuff. I don't think the bodies there are much cheaper than SG, but the lens are cheaper. Eg. 85 1.4 is slightly less than 1500SGD, about the same as 2nd hand price in SG. Most of the lens that cost more than 1K are cheaper in Taipei.

Another good buy in Taipei are camera books and magazines, especially those "how-to" series in chinese language, you wont find these in Singapore bookshops or camera shops.
