Hi ppl, I will go for bussiness trip to silicon valley, California for 2 weeks next month, just wondering if anyone knows of a good place to pick up a canon 30D, remember this topic was discussed in Canon forum several month ago, but can not find it.

Thanks in advance.

Did you consider buying online?

But bear in mine that there might be warranty issue and also the battery charger that comes in the US package is 110V, you might need to spend a small some to get a step up converter to use in Singapore.

charger will be 110-240.. u will spend about $1.50 buying a plastic adapter.

i dont know if canon singapore will honour canon usa 's warrenty.

a new 30D can be bought for about 1150 from dell.com since i last checked.

if you want a god deal, one of th ebest local camera store is San Jose Camera on Campbell Ave and Winchester Blvd.

thanks for the information.

BTW, can recommend some reputable website for online order? how about deliver time?
2 weeks is safe enough to receive the camera?

just go the BHphotovideo.com order it and ship to yourself in CA, abd save yourself 8.25% tax straight away.

anyone can provide more information? Thanks

I don't think you can find much big camera shops in the Silicon Valley area.

Your best bet is to buy online. That way, you avoid the sales tax. Pick a cheaper shipping method - the most expensive is 2nd day, the cheapest is by ground shipment which might take a few days.

But if the delivered parts are not to expectation and you need to reject them to the store for exchange - do you have the time to do that? :dunno:

Another way, if you have enough say in the company :bsmilie: , stop by HK 1 day on the way back - fly the SG - HK - San Francisco route and pick up the things you want in HK. That way, you can test the items on the spot in the shop. The extra cost is that one day hotel and expenses in HK which probably be on your own.

Best place to buy is online, to save the tax. Next best place is to buy the gray set, since you're not staying in US, no US warranty doesn't matter.

If you want to buy in-store, try Keeble and Shuchat in Palo Alto. Remember all stores there have 8.25% sales tax.
