welcome to a very addictive club! :cheergal:

are u 1st-timer in MF? then try out film first. slide can try only when u are more familar. slides are not as forgiving as film when it comes to exposure.

the cost is ard $4-$5 per roll. can get at either ruby or CP. ruby for Ilford - they have a good range there. anything else can try CP.

ruby processes 120 film. u can save cost by asking them to develop a index print for u. cost abt $10. from the index print, u then select the better ones for development.

have fun!

i would recommend to try slides film,i assume u have some basic metering knowledge if u are trying out MF.
get a roll of slides, kodak or fuji and do a few close up shots at some fruit stalls or colorful images, that should get u hooked for a while.
would recommend processing at RGB.$4.99 per roll.

 Just completed my assignment and wanted to buy the Flexaret

Anyway, for film I uses Kodak VC, it comes in a pack of 5 for <$30 :)
Slides, I uses Fuji Provia 400 outdoor and 100 indoors

For Studio, however, I choose Fuji NPC160 :D ... kind of conflicting huh?

For B&W ...... s*** I never tried B&W on MF before :D

Hahaha ..... For 35mm slides, a 1/3 stop overexpose will be nice, but for Medium format, the lattitude is higher :), can go up to 2 stops .... of course I never try more then 2 stops lah ..... :D Maybe can, I don't know, will try then tell you ok? ......

Put in mind ..... make a exposure control strip ..... make a exposure control strip ..... :D

nightwolf75, what do you mean by slides being not as forgiving as film when it comes to exposure??

i'm getting confused now.......

oh no! from blurblock, its quite forgiving. i think my info is meant for 35mm film. got it all confused. sorry, dotti!

i think i'll leave the MF explanations to blurblock. he's the one who advise me on MF stuff anyway. :bsmilie:

over to you, blurblock!

You see .... when you shoot with slides, and it does not turn out too good, the slides will scold you and refuse to perform :D .

Actually, Film has broader lattitude then Slides flim, thus for overexposing, film can accept higher over exposure before it bleeds.

I go ask someone (don't know if he allows me to say his name or not).... he is the one that give me information on Medium Format and how to compose with it ..... I am not that good either .... shoot for fun and not like him who is a professional Photographer :D .

But anyway, between the break from my next school assignment, I will take a control strip for slides on MF :)..... give you an update once the control strip is completed :D .... Think I will test with -1, -0.5, 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5 :D

........

i think i better go shoot shoot shoot and experiment la...

Experiment lor :) ... but if you shoot it like you shoot 35mm, there should be no problem lah ;) ......

Anyway, OT a bit, I notice u are using a Yashica Electro 35 GS rangfinder ..... nice camera :D

hmmmm....i juz got a seagull too....i figured out the same films i use on 35mm should work fine in MF too hahah....porta 160..

depends on wat u shoot mate. i favor fuji slides

i dunno whether u will see any diff from 35mm if u shoot MF film and print only 4R size..

slides will give u a better idea on the diff between a 35mm and a 120 one.

For me, I only shoot slides and B&W on my mamiya. That's the only way to go.

Just my 2cents worth.

Shooting slides for MF is the way to go really,

you will get high just looking at big slides!

you should also give kodak 100VS a try, i think its a nice alternative to velvia which is 1 buck more ex, from ruby. $5.80 for this roll. not too sure.

Resoultion is key right? slides all the way!
