Battery mod for a Yashica Electro.

Hi,

Just bought my 1st rangefinder. It is a Yashica Electro 35 GS. After reading some webbies, realised that the battery was phased out because it uses mercury. A few options are to buy an adapter or to modify it. Just a couple of questions;

1) Is the adapter sold in SGP?
2) What 6v battery can I use and where to get it? Was in Mustafa last night and all they had were 3v ones.
3) If I have to get the adapter off Ebay, does anybody want to get one as well? We could combine shipping to save a couple of dollars.

When I had the Yashica, it already had the battery adapter already installed. It came from the Yashica Guy, you can buy from him :

Not that I know of

4LR44 or 4SR44 (4LR44 is easier to find - I got mine from Mustafa) OR just stack and tape 4 LR44 batteries together can be found anywhere and cheap.

From eBay, I do not really have to get from Yashica guy there are other cheaper ones


Altervative Options:
4) DIY - there are tonnes of examples on the web. Just find a spring wrap ur battery to beef up the size, dump it in the battery then dump ur spring in. Wau La shd work now.

5) Send your camera for a overhual at one of the shop at Penin and get the battery compartment modified - cons: it will probably cost more then what u got ur camera for.

i use a single 4LR44 6v battery with a spring. (you should be able to get a spring from any DIY shop or just make one up out of some mid-gauge wire.) doesn't matter if the battery clunks around abit, the +ve and -ve contacts are maintained without any problems.

you can add 4~5pcs 5 cent or 10 cent coins. I'm using 3V lithium battery with 5 5cent coins.
I think that is the easiest and cheapest way.

The 4LR44's are fine, make sure you get the 6v ones, cause the more common 3v ones look the same at 1st glance.

Hi all , original battery for yashica electro 35 was using national mecury battery model HN-4N (5.6V) thickness 16.78 mm x lenght 44.24 mm , now this battery was discontinue for long time and very hard to find , so we have to find somethings to replace or modify it , the idea way is using 1 pc of CR-123A (3V) , AND 2PCS OF LR-44 (1.5 X 2 = 3V ) , these two pcs of battery please use scott tape to stick its together , all these two type of battery add up become 6 v (lenght was 45 mm) . in this case no need to use any adapter , spring or coin etc .
