Bally Photo

Hi guys,

I understand that Bally Photo has a bad reputation in CS. Nevertheless I was looking for a Sony 50mm f1.8 lens today for a colleague. Went to the usual shops like TK and SLRR but they don't carry it. Tried my luck at Bally Photo even I don't really wanted to. They carry it and quoted me $145. I thought the price was quite reasonable.

I casually asked for quotes for a few lens. I was surprised their prices are very good! They quoted me $14++ for Canon 17-55mm which is $100 less than TK and SLRR. I asked whether are they selling grey sets, they said all local sets.

Hmm...anybody has recent experience with Bally Photo?

Just make sure you take the necessary precautions and don't end up buying price-inflated accessories, got many tricks one.

That said, I have bought a lens from Bally before during one of those shows, they were carrying Pentax items, and the sale went well.

Yes bro. I think doing homework is very important. Which is why I'm surprised their prices are very attractive. Just sharing my field report and thoughts. Obviously I'm not related to Bally at all :D

I have gotten (nearly)every single dry box I've bought from Worldwide Cameras at Peninsula at a better price than the vicinity shops like John 3:16, AP, CP... That's another condemned shop. Like you say, doing homework is very important. :)

Hi
Does worldwide sell grey sets?..thanks

Actually I got some accessories from Bally too. Price is really good. I heard that they sold very cheap lenses too... I guess... it was depend on your luck. Just check everything thoroughly, do homework and buy whatever you need and check, then leave.

Agree. I guess as long as we know our stuff they can't do any fraud. To be fair if they are honest and offer good prices, Bally should give recommended shops like TK, AP and SLRR a run for money. Good competition is always good :)

I think recently their service got abit better.. Was there two weeks ago asking for some video cam and cam lenses.. surprised to find that their prices were VERY good. Still, no business from me yet coz the people dun seems to know their stuffs.. And not to mention that most of them smoke their breath is really really bad.. HAHA

i remember buying a dry cabi from Bally and it was a good price. I remembered i did my research and also they had the size i want in stock. The other stores all don't have. Just make sure you don't buy any other things from them, besides the one you did research for;)

Just remember that they don't slap in a filter at outrageous price to go along with the lens :bsmilie:

once i went there looking for BG-E8 grip for my 550D they outright tell me its no longer in production which i thought it was strange, ended up going to SLRR to double check and they said no such thing.... NEVER going back to Bally again and their service suck too

You do know this two shops are under the same boss right? It's a sales person's problem, ignorance + arrogance = bad service.

I bought a nikon d7000 from IT show last week. I didn't know that Bally Photo was the vendor until collection time.
The package included an ICABI HD20 analog dry cabinet. I tried all the settings for a week, and the highest RH% that i can get is only 35% (very dry acc. to the meter).
I tried calling them up and ask if i can get i a replacement for the unit, they said accessories do not have warranty.
Now im stuck with an unusable dry cabinet and need to buy a new one... ;(

I guess in your case, they can just 'pass the buck' to the distributor for service.

cannot find a singapore distributor for i-cabi...

Mind to share what is wrong with such a setting? The myth of drying oil caused by low humidity was busted just recently here by several members. What is left is a potential drying of rubber - but honestly, my rubber grips rather suffer from extended exposure to high humidity.

I got my d7000 from it show, Bally photos.

USB card reader is faulty :-(

What happens? It disconnects by itself?

Ah...bally photo...sometimes they do sell lens at cheaper price, but be careful of the two techniques they use...

1. Sell expensive filter/battery/other acc.
2. Give you really good price, then tell you the lens you are looking for is not in stock, then start recommending other lens/package to you, often at a "Special discount" price. Pretty much like how sls operates.
