 . This is the first time I bought a camera in SIM LIM square and I think I overpaid for this casio Exilim Z60 at this shop (Hi-V Trading). Let me simplified my experience in Hi-V.
I was planning to get a Canon IXUS60, I asked for the price and he gave me the best price S$380 which is the best deal I heard compared with other shops S$412. Then, he start to introduce me Casio Exilim Z60, he said this is better than the Canon model. I tried to compare the performance both of the cameras, found that Casio is better than Canon (Canon’s LCD screen keep flickering). End up, I have to beg him for a “great deal-S$450’ consist of:
Camera, camera case (non leather), 1 original battery, (1 unknown brand battery and 1 GB Toshiba SD card for S$50) and THAT”S ALL!!!!!!!
After I bought the camera, I found that Harvey Norman is selling the same model at S$399 which included tripod, 1GB + 512MB memory cards, and a leather case. On top of that I also found out that the Casio standard promotion (S$399) till January End consist of a free leather case and a 512 MB memory card.
I was stunt!!! That means the guy in Hi-V did not give me any great deal and it is actually more expensive than the Casio standard promotion! Even worst I found out that Hi-V is actually one of the authorized dealers of Casio. Hence, I went back to Hi-V to get back the 512MB memory card (item in standard promotion package), the shopkeeper treated me rudely and threw my camera package on the table.
I have learned the lesson. Personally, I think I really overpaid for that camera. As an intelligent consumer, I think you all have a better judgment than I do.

So sorry to hear about your case Rachel. Most of the time, it is better to consult some friends who knows the camera shops better or to go to those more recommended shops such as TK Foto, Cathy Photo, Alan Photo, MS Colour or John 3:16 to take a look.

I was warn by one of my friends that some shops in Sim Lim will resort to such tricks. A lesson learnt is more important. Don't think too much about it and start enjoy photography. Cheerz.

the general rule is not to buy from those "tourist" shops. u end up paying much more.

start making pictures and not think too much about it.. :) i guess u'll be happier with better pictures than saving the few tens..

Yes let this be a lesson learnt. Its good to look around first and have a rough idea whats the price of a cam before buying. Cathay Photo, Alan Photo, TK Foto, MS Color and Lords Cam n Watches are the more popular (and reliable) cam shops around. So look around these shops before deciding on your next cam.

Seriously, sorry to say that but I think it can't be help because even my uncles and cousins thought that they can get good camera deals at Sim Lim Square where it is famous for its electronics stuffs but there are some shops that resort to tricks such as quoting the lowest price yet claim that there is no stock and then recommend another model which is either the same price but lesser function or more function but jack up the price.

Now, I usually advice my uncles and cousins to frequent the shops I go to and mainly to TK Foto because their service is really good.

i got the same experience as you in the past few years, in Sim Lim too.
now, i'll never go to the other shops, except the above mentioned one. eventhough some "black shops" are offering better price, but who knows what will happen later.

thanks to all, from now on, I will learn to improve my photo taking skills and my pricing knowledge as well. ;p By the way, this is a really a popular site, very hard to connect.

There was a software upgrade earlier, that is why it was down or a bit slow.

As mentioned earlier, lesson learnt, so time to focus more on taking photos and enjoy photography. Do feel free to post your questions in the appropriate forums and for the issue of pricing knowledge, maybe you can try checking out some of the shops as listed here for your future reference.

And lastly, welcome to Clubsnap.

Please name the shop here so that the rest of the Cser will be warned

Go back to the shop and request to speak to the person in charge.

you are suffering because nobody buys cameras from SIM LIM SQUARE (except maybe from the Alan Photo shop on the ground floor)

suggestion for remedy:
pls go to other places (i.e. better places) to buy cameras in the future. eg TCW or john 3:16

point of lesson, must do homework before buying.

and i HATE SLS.doh!

I think anyone is vulnerable to this kind of "chopping"... Just do you homework before purchasing lor... :)

Sorry to hear that...Sim Lim Square is known as Cowbow town....you kill or be killed....next time check the model sure sure from Best Denki etc and then go bargain there...as long as you pay less then the retail store then OK...... :dunno:

If you are sure that they short charge you....you should lodge a case at small claim tribunal....provide the evidence and they have to comply.....I won my case previoulsly with a famous faniture store and they reimbursed me the full sum I paid....at first the judge awarded me compensation but I kuai Lan...insist on full refund...so they LLBP must refund me despite I use the furniture for a few weeks liao

research before paying

you go to simlim with the mindset to do research too right?

so research clearly first next time:)
