Just got my package (Canon L Lens and B+W filter) via UPS from B&H

Professionally packed (with "air pillows" and large bubble pack) with the goods looking brand new and un-opened). Even with the shipment, GST plus the UPS service charge for GST payment factored in, my items are at least 10-15% than if I got them from the local shops. And with international warranty some more.

Makes me wonder who'd want to buy lenses in Singapore :P

10-15% cheaper I mean :embrass:

so much cheaper! how about a 100L dry cabi?

I had bought things from B&H, Calumet, and Adorama.

I do not buy from Adorama any more because of the way they handled a mistake they made.

Calumet and B&H are very professional and excellent.

I buy mostly from B&H because the things I buy (papers and chemicals) are a little cheaper than Calumet.

teL: Were you charged the 8.75% sales tax when you bought from B & H?

I am kinda keen especially now that the prices there are much cheaper then locally. Hmm... how much did shipping come up to eventually for postage here? and did u have to pay sales tax? or gst?

you can check directly from the website. You would be surprised that it is not that expensive. Sometimes it is better to use UPS from them than VPOST. I shipped a 5D in 3 days for US$65. You do not have to pay sales tax but GST is a must for anything above S$400. UPS pays for it first and then you would have to reimburse them (with admin charges). B&H is very reliable and is very prompt. Of course, if you have friends in US, the items can be sent to them to be rerouted;)

Sales tax is charged only for in-state purchase. Not valid for Internet purchases..

I think the queries on sales tax and gst have been answered :)

UPS paid the GST for me upfront, and I paid them an admin fee of S$10 for doing so. GST only applies for purchases above S$400. I ordered my lens and filter over the New Year weekend. It took them only 4 business days to deliver (minus one day when I was not at home to receive the package -- I rescheduled the delivery eventually).

What's even more impressive is the level of support. After placing my order, I wanted to enquire whether if my purchase has been shipped. They actually have someone online to chat directly with you. The service officer was quick, prompt and polite and answered all my queries readily.

Did you have to fax your credit card info to them?

Sorry, forgot to mention I'm refering the B&H.

Haha, the caveat with rerouting the package is that we would have to pay sales tax then, which could be higher than locally depending on which state u reside in...

So in the end, how much cheaper did u manage to get the camera at?

If you read their instructions carefully, you can also scan the credit card (both sides) and email it to them. That's what I did first time I ordered something.

Been buying from them for almost 8 years now. Never had a problem before.

Ah thanks. If no scanner, can we take a photo of the card instead?

bhphoto is on the ex side but fast. Perhaps with canon lens it is worth it, but other lens like nikon, etc, not that worth it after you factor in shipping and gst.

Not everything is cheaper than Singapore... glad you got a bargain though... :)
