Can the posts in Buy and Sell which are outdated becos the equipment have been sold be automatically deleted? With time this will add to the already long list of posts. Thanks.

There is no way of telling whether the item has been sold or not. And right now, we're ill-equipped to be monitoring the forums 24/7. What we would strongly advise is for the sellers to lock their threads after they've sold the item.

yeah....lock it will be enough, actually the post in Buy & Sell also can use as a rough price reference when you want to purchase 2nd hand stuff elsewhere, which is very useful IMO.

as long as there're no technical constraints on storage and speed of access, I feel we should keep all the prior posts. The originator should take the initiative to update the posts, especially for Buy&Sell.

Maybe can purge by date.. but I don't think it's necessary, the amount of space a post take is too little to justify deletion .

Why don't the posts be tagged when its items are sold and the price is archived for reference. The issue is not the space it takes up but the length of the thread in Buy and Sell. Gets too long to search. A simple housekeeping of sold items would be good, no need to be 100%. Or maybe a search engine would be good.

The problem is that the sheer amout of work here would overwhelm the moderators. There is physically no way to tell if the thread starter doesn't update. We can't have the moderators running around emailing/calling up people just to see if they've sold off their stuff. Our moderators aren't fulltime into this, they have their day jobs too.

I can understand your frustration in having to search through the long posts, but we are unable to have a better system and would like to request that the sellers lock their thread if their items have been sold.

Why not just delete posts older than say, 30 days regardless? If the item is still not sold by then, it would have been buried anyway. If the seller still wants to sell, he can either up the thread or post a new one (when the old one is gone). :)

It doesn't take up a lot of space on the server anyway. The key thing here is that some people would like to use these prices as a reference as well, and so would like to keep these posts around. Unless someone steps up to collate the posts... if not...

Won't that still post the same problem if they wanted to search? :P

I feel we need to keep the information for reference... some of the price indications, url references & other information are very useful for research

We'll be amending the guidelines requesting users to lock their threads and update the thread title when their items have been sold.

Thank you for your suggestions!
