ST Pg H2, Fri 25 May 07 full page ad by Audio House (Liang Court and Sims Dr) is selling 5M waterproof Olympus MJU-725SW for $299 and the famed ISO3200 Fuji FX-F31 for $249.

This is really 50% off the RRP. Is there a catch somewhere in some fineprint or am I misreading something? Or is it the real street price?

The 50% discount is only for those who have won the "contest".. Have to guess correctly the first number of the 1st prize of 4D den stand a chance.. haha They made it very misleading with their promotion catalog.. ;)

They started this "gimmick" some time back. You have to "guess" the first number of the 1st Prize in the 4D draw before you can get back 50% off the full price.

If that is the case, simply buy $1 worth of 4D numbers with the first number starting from 0-9. That way, you only need to spend $10 in total to get 50% off the camera.

Unless of course there are other "smaller prints" than the fine prints which eluded us....

And the 50% off is in the form of Audio house vouchers, not cash!

thanks for all the fine prints and micro small prints clarifications.

such sales gimmicks r everywhere. that's why when we see an unbelievable price, we must always double or triple check.

had seen other sales gimmicks in the past:
1. mail a cheque with a few hundred dollars to our house but need to use it for purchases at their shop - favorite among electrical appliances shops
2. attend a no obligation 2 hr talk and be eligible for a free camera/trip - favorite among timeshare resorts

when mobile phones was liberalized in the mid 90s there were alot of complaints about fine prints and many consumers were caught off guard. since telcos r big co, there had no choice but be more transparent. their advertizements r now more forth coming with more
details.

the most honest ad gimmick i had ever seen was > 10 yr ago by mitsubishi cars - "... buy a video camera (street price at that time was about $3-$5K) for about $100K and get a free car..."
