hi guys

just wanna check if these shops are like.. you know.. trustable, clean, local warranty, etc etc... no issues.. ?

plenty of choices, why must choose from there? :dunno:

Most shops are there to "persuade" tourists to buy at a higher price. There are certain shops at times that give good prices and service, depending on the person doing the selling. But most importantly, its still buyer beware.

If you are lucky ..... yes ..... if you are having normal luck ...... well ......

I did find the shop Lords Photography to be quite alrite, was quoted 1500 w/gst for the A1. Bought an xd card from them before and the price was market level.

*note: I'm not working for them.

i was quoted $2600 for canon 10D...

i asked him got stocks or not he said "you wanna buy ? if you wanna buy i can get stocks for you"

dunno is local or grey

In a word, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unless you like being fleeced or treated like Cr*p because you are local.

Please beware and get all facts right and kosher before you plonk money down.

I had tried to ask a shop in Lucky plaza for a low end vivitar lens .... and he quoted me $600 .... for that price, I could get 2 vivitar lenses if I buy from US....... or get a fairly good 28-70 f/2.8 ......

Well like all had been said, in Lucky Plaza it depends on LUCK, notice capital.
You must be prepared to make the decision right there and than and know the market price. Sometimes just asking casually will bring great results but of cause they can also refuse to sell you after giving you what seems to be the best price in the whole Singapore or no stock or minus something inside. In fact I find People's Park worse.

In general ... If you are white, these shops provide a premium level of service. but if you are yellow, they treat you like scum.

My advice is.. keep out of that area....

encounter once be4..
friend want to buy a P&S firm camera.. that most basic type..
when to ask a shop .. quote as a  price...

later the sale ppl find out that we are local.. (he even ask, r u all local).. when we say yeap.. why...

He walk back, talk to some1 and come back with another price which is $200+ cheaper...

don't trust them any more....

so .. if u want to buy from there.. good luck.. u need it..

Now I understand why they quote me such a high price for the lens ...... most people mistaken me for either Taiwanese or China Chinese when I speak Mandrain ........

go there must bring L lens make urself look whiter still :bsmilie:

juz dun bother about that place lah

Do thorough research of the product/s you intend to buy, in particular, the standard accessories that the manufacturer packed with. Shops at Lucky Plaza or Sim Lim may quote a lower price, but they may exclude some standard accessories eg. batteries, bag, tripod, etc. If you want them, they will requote a higher price. So, BUYERS BEWARE.

Not lah .... also depends on which L lens you bring, some L lens are black in colour..... but if you bring a white L lens there, and they recognise it as a L lens (sometime I really wonder if they know most of canon's Longer then wide angle L lens are white in colour).... they visualise a carrot walking to them ..... then they get their parang really to chop chop .... zam cai tao .... LOL

There was a case, where somebody came onto IRC and told us that a shop in Lucky Plaza, allowed her to buy a A80 take home and play for 2 days, if not satisfied can go back and top up for a S50.

I'm sure some other CSers witnessed this incident (the name was not revealed though). So I really think the integrity of getting a new set and not a used one is really hard if they chose to do business this way. Imagine if the lady went back for the S50, somebody or manybodies would have probably touched that very same S50 she ended up topping up for. And the next person to touch the A80 will be using a 2nd or umpteenth hand one.

Personal experience is that the shops there are networked, if you've asked at 1-2 shops, be prepared. The whole of lucky plaza, if not 70% of them will know there's somebody going around looking for 1 item. So either you will not get a good price or face rejections like "Oh you're the one looking for xxxxxxx". Encountered this when I was shopping for the grip of my CP5700.

Also, they are just more then happy to close deals that they don't really care what you want. I asked for the vertical grip MB-E5700, the guy said have... went to a CP5700 box, took out the EN-EL1 and said this is it. If it was somebody else and bought that battery, I pity the next person to get that package. Had to fork out extra for a battery that was 'supposed' to be there but it's not.

Final word of advice. Stick to CP, AP, John 3:16 or Harvey/Best Denki. Wait. Since you've already waited so long, don't let the spur of the moment get you :)

One of my friend just brought a Sandisk 512MB CF card at lucky plaza for $280, it was not even a ultra 2 card. The price was slightly high .....

Well ..... I would rather stick to CP, AP or MS, John 3:16 is another choice at Funan.

Just be careful if you wanna buy at lucky plaza ... that same also goes to any places you visit. BE sure to check the price first before you buy.
