Just like to do a poll on who traded up for a Leica MP???

The MP is a bit of a holy grail camera for me. It probably what I lust after at the moment, this is the collector side more than the user side comming out.

A used M6 would be a more likely attainable camera though!. I hope that with the new Leica models now out and the general shift to digital this will push the prices of the M6 down, but I think this is wishful thinking.

I do collect camera brochures and I did manage to get a MP brochure recently. This might have to do at the moment!

Yes got to agree with you that a used M6 is much more cheaper and better than getting a more expensive re-packaged MP. :)
I have no plans at all to trade my M6TTL for a MP as I really find it no point. I still use flash quite often with my SF20 with it, my camera there is still flash TTL metering (MP have no TTL flash metering).
I collect camera brochures and books too mostly Leicas...
I have brochures for : Leica MP, M7, M6TTL, Digilux 1, Compact cameras, R9 and etc.

When I got my M7, it was a toss between that or the MP (price difference for the body was only an extra £100 more for the MP). However, I decided to go for the M7 instead simply because it suited the way I took my pics... using aperture-priority.

BTW, a note to potential collectors, do not simply buy a brand new MP and not use it as all it does is to damage the camera's internal mechanical mechanism through its non usage! This is a fact as by using the camera, it spreads the factory-applied lubricants within its internal mechanism to let the run smoothly. If left un-touched in display cabinets, these lubricants will settle and form clogs in certain areas while leaving other areas un-lubricated. This then result in the "mysterious" rough working of apparently prestine M-bodies that have plagued many collectors in the past!

i've tried the MP, M7, M6 and the M6Titan. Of the 3, the MP shutter is seriously silent, as with the M6Titan. The M7 is close but still quite a bit louder. The M6 is the worst of the lot if u ask me. So i guess some of us might want an MP for that purpose. That said, given a choice, i'd pick the M7 for the AE. Haha, i'm a lazy photographer like szennyboy.

M7 shutter is even more silent than any M-series camera in low shutter speeds due to the fact that M7's shutter is an electronics-controlled one.
All Mechnical M-camera share the same shutter and it is well known to be very silent.
What different is not the shutter sound, it is the smoother film-advance mech that the Leica MP have due to tighter assy tolerence (and the return of brass gear as well).

Try the M3. Dead silent. And you don't need to masturbate over it.

Agree!

For the 2 months I had my MP, I had put in more than 20 rolls of film and loving it! What use is a smooth and fantastic to hold camera if we don't use it to what it was built for.

I've tried a few M6 before dumping my money on an MP. Difference in feel is quite significant. Shutter is also quieter for MP. Of course, great feel doesn't give you better pics, but it does seduce you to use it and take pics which the optics and mechanics are worthy of.

funny my feel of the M7 differs from that of other users...haha. I find it louder, esp so at high speeds. Nvm, its just me. If anyone is selling their MP or M7 pls let me know. Currently looking for one.
