Any M-mount lens (35/50mm) that has MFD<50cm?

Hi Bros,
Looking for any 35/50mm lens that can focus down to 0.5m or below.
Most are around 0.7-0.9m only.
Is there such a lens in M/LTM mount?

Thank you.

Some of the Japanese 50mm LTM (Nikkor50f1.4, Nikkor50f2, Tanar50f1.5 Tanar50f2, Tanar50f1.8) can focus to 1.5 feet (about 50cm)
But M cameras range-couple to 0.7m only, so closer than that is guessitmation but with digital you can preview & adjust accordingly. But with a Sony Nex like what you have, then it is not an issue.
Bring your Nex & I'll bring Nikkor50f2LTM for you to try when I meet you tmr.

Thanks a lot Gommy!
But when i read up on the Nikkor 50F1.4 and 50F2, i thought the closest MFD was also only 0.7m, some lenses can be shimmed from 0.9 to 0.7m.
With my NEX i couldn't focus closer than 0.7/0.9m because the focusing tab will stop at that point.

Unfortunately i couldn't go to the outing tomorrow, will join you guys next time to admire your lenses :)

Hmm...interesting question...limitation of RF...

Leica lenses min. focus distance below 0.5m:

LTM
1) 21mm f4 Super Angulon, 0.4m

M
1) 21mm f4 Super Angulon, 0.4m
2) 21mm f3.4 Super Angulon, 0.4m
3) 50mm Dual Range Summicron with google, close focusing 0.48m to 0.9m
4) 90mm Macro-Elmar with google, close focusing 0.5m to 0.76m

I believe some Voigtlander lenses especially the wide angle lenses, namely 12mm, 15mm, 21mm can focus down to 0.3m or 0.5m...

Benny or Chi Fei is the best person to advise you.

:D

You're right. WATE too!
But TS asking for 35/50mm.

Thanks Hookonclassic, that's quite a list.
What i want to do is to take close up pics, so with wide angle lens, even if the MFD is close, the view is still quite wide. That's why i am looking at 35-50mm.
Maybe what i need is a 75mm lens hehe, but it's going to be tough manual focusing 75mm on NEX.

Haha Gommy, sorry sir, didn't know that it's you who i'll meet tomorrow.

Rangefinder lenses are very interesting for me coming from dslr world, the design is so compact for fast lenses, great built. not to mention good looking too.
DSLR lenses are too bulky. The only minus point of rangefinder lenses for me is the long MFD.
25mm F0.95 CV for u43 can focus down to ~0.3m so its interesting, but not sure if u43 can be adapted to NEX.

Oh...didn't notice the 35/50mm...ya...if TS intention is use it on NEX with crop factor of 1.53 times...then 21mm becomes 32mm, 24mm becomes 36mm.

Thanks Hookonclassic, that's quite a list.

RF inherent design due to parallax error, not suited for macro-photography, with NEX, you can't even mount the close focusing goggle, either stick to CCTV lens like your 25mm f0.95...or use SLR for this purpose....

Yes you can use longer focal length such as 90mm f2 or 135mm f2.8 on tripod using live view to focus....DOF should be very shallow too....:D

You can shoot macro using any Leica M or LTM lens on your NEX easily

All you need is to add an extension ring between your Leica lens and NEX. The original Leitz extension ring (code name: 16469) looks like this:

Leitz16469.jpg

BTW, the above pix is taken using a Leica 50mm summicron with one 16469 ring, on a Sony NEX 5. Distance is about 0.3m, at f2.8. This is 20% of actual image size.

Where to find this ring is another question. (It does appear at the Bay once a while.)

Interesting accessories...thanks for sharing...original Leitz for Visoflex?

Are you using 2 adapters for your shots...i.e. one 16469 extension ring and one M-mount to NEX E-mount adaptor?

Leitz VISOFLEX system with bellow, etc does open up more possibility of macro with RF...but :sweatsm:

:)

Thanks Thomas and milaurie!
That looks like a good option.
But gommy just poisoned me with a chrome nikkor 50mm f1.4 ltm that can focus to 0.5m........very nice option too. Thx for the sonnar, gommy!

Milaurie, how much approximately is the extension ring?

The ring should be US$100-ish. Yes, it's originally used in Visoflex system for macro photography. It can also be used together with M-NEX adaptor on the Sony NEX series.

By using ext ring, the lens will not focus to infinity. The only Leica RF lens I know that can focus from 1 ft to infinity is the O-series nickel-plated LTM Elmar 3.5cm aka near-focus Elmar. It's 800GBP some 10 years ago. v interesting vintage lens.
