Want to fix a Canon EOS50... the plastic catch for the camera back broke (on the body's side). Now door can't close. Have to tape it down to use... :p

Any recommended repair shop (cheap and good)?

suggest that you sent the camera back to the agent. will probably need a part change. otherwise, you can try the camera wrokshop or prime camera or the other at adelphi/peninsular area. ask around for price before you commit. and ask about the repair required like change of parts etc. ask for a general servicing if your camera is due for it.

You could send it back to Canon. the pricing between them and the second hand stores are about the same.

I know many folks may not agree with me on this, but if i always think that fixing stuff at the original place where i bought it will be a safer bet, then if i were to let it loose at any of the repair workshops. At least i know Canon will replace faulty parts with genuine articles.

So to pay a little bit more for peace of mind is OK. Where do you think the repair shops get the spare parts in the first place? It will still have to come from Canon/ Nikon in the first place.

i have been going back to nikon agent around leng kee road to have all my nikon cameras and lens serviced. i find that the agent is normally more reliable. if a circuit board is damaged, it will be replaced with a new board. moreover new and genuine parts are used. if the parts are no more available, they will advise their customers accordingly. while you should be prepare to pay higher price

for those repair shops, i am highly suspicious of the quality of the work done as well as the parts they use. how can the prices differ so much if genuine and new parts are used. sometime it is not wise to try to repair the components on circuit boards.

so yes, usually higher price. but think about the quality of work and peace of mind.
