I'm a new user of the Minolta X-700 body!

Its my first SLR (just got it a few minutes ago), still trying to comprehend the functions of this cam and how it work.

Btw, is there any good external flash that's cheap and work for the X-700?

3rd party flashes that also use TTL to meter. Not sure if that function works on 3rd party flashes since most of them are supposed to be reversed engineered. Prefer to stick to the program flash as all the functions will be used. Or buy 2nd hand original flashes. Try The Camera Workshop at Peninsular Shopping Centre.

program flash?
Sorry, program flash is the term that Minolta uses for its proprietary flashes. Nikon calls theirs Speedlite I think or is it Canon. Anyway, it just means the original Minolta flash whatever the model.

do you know what flash does x-700 use?

Look up the Minolta websiteat www.minolta.com.sg. I think it should on the website. The x700 is quite old, isn't it? U might have to settle for an 2nd hand flash though.........
