Any cheaper alternatives to Xpan?

You might want to try a Mamiya 7 with a panoramic adapter. I cant say it's much cheaper, but you do also end up having the option of shooting 6x7

XPan is the only 35 mm format flat plane pano camera. Swing lens cameras all suffer from heavy distortions, e.g straight lines bulge heavily towards the photographer and sometimes they do not look good. Using 6x7, 6x8 and 6x9 and trimmed to pano would mean: firstly 120 films are required, secondly, it loses the perspective from a photographer's viewpoint at the time of shooting.

Mind boggling and ultimate digital pano! only for the elitist pano photographers :(

I use my CV 15mm/F4.5 for shooting, then followed by cropping ;)

Poor man xpan :)

Dunno whether cheaper, but linhof technorama...

Some also argue that you no longer use an X-pan - digital imaging can do it, they argue....

A stitched digital panorama could do it.
It'll have some disadvantage though. Its harder to take handheld shots.

If you don't mind the bulk (which I guess you do), the fuji gx617 or the linhof 617 are about the same price of an Xpan II, but with better resolution.

The xpan is really very good in terms of functionality to size ratio.

i have a horizon kompact for sale if you are interested
