Trust me - I won't go near L series.

My view is that you don't need the BEST tool - average will do - the
user(photographer) will decide the end result - cos I have see too many
'photographers' with those high-end lens but below-average output.

Anyway, thanks for your response.

Hor Hor... watch out... :D When U've perfected your skills, U'll wonder why your pics are not that sharp.... Then here comes the L :blah: :blah:

I agree that if you're seriously interested in photography, you're sure to end up between K & M. ;)

simi si K and M?

haha.. alot of CSer here got the point..
unless its an L, the upgrading never ends.... even from F4L to F2.8L :)

50mm no more L glass so he's safe there...only other option for him is to go for the 1.4. IMO, it's not really worth it (although I've gone through 2 of those; 1 got stolen and the other's still with me). I just like the additional brightness and the super shallow DOF. Contrast and sharpness is almost the same as a good copy of the 1.8.

try the EF 28mm/f1.8

Well, you seem like you have your head screwed on the right way. Just the kind who will eventually end up with the Ls. :bsmilie:

Time will tell.

:p

sometimes they will make a short detour to 'Sigma EX' first, but eventually they will go L

But if you get a good sample of a 50 f/1.8, it will be sharper than the L zooms and have no back/front focusing problems. If you get an poor/average sample, just sell 2nd hand and upgrade ;)

Ha ha. Famous last words. All of us have said that at one time or another.

The cheap primes DO have their place. The two I would most recommend are the 50mm f1.8 and the 85mm f1.8 USM.

Although I have the 50mm f1.4, I don't find it that much better than the f1.8. A bit more silent and fast-focusing, and of course slightly shallower DOF, but that's about it. And it's heavier, and needs a hood. The great thing about the 50mm f1.8 is that the front element is recessed, meaning you don't really need a hood for that lens.

You happen to know the price of the 85 1.8? :D

Aiyah...tot might be that price new...kekeke :bsmilie:

new 85mm f1.8 will be around $600+ abit for a new local set
i got mine around close to $600 for export set

85/1.8 ROCKS!!! They should make every prime focus at that speed.

It's 136/1.8 after the 1.6x though, so might be a bit too long for some.
