Becareful when you bring back your camera from Malaysia. I bought Alpha last weekend and custom taxed me GST. Any "new" product from overseas can be taxed.

wah so sway ah....
anyway, last weekend I was at jusco aeon terbrau city's sonystyle AD outlet. according to the salesman there (who checked with his other counter staffs), they cannot give me a tourist warranty for the A300. did you manage to get any warranty?
or is the tourist warranty thingy only valid for lenses?

Yeah, weishengg, I was in Taiwan last week and the SONYStyle shop at Taipei 101 also told me that there is no tourist warranty for cameras, only for laptops! Maybe SONY is stopping this cos too many people are crossing buying from different markets?

Err... can share how you manage to get the tourist warranty? Which shop did you patronise?

Anyway, for GST, next time just take the camera out of the box and snap a few shots on it... personal use items are not charged GST if it's already used...;)

I buy my gear at Shingfu in Boi Ai Road area, full warranty although I need to bring it back to Taipei of corse. No worries, am visiting 3 times per year anyway, apart from the fact that I am not so much worried although i do realize electronics might fail.

You're wrong... My camera was not in the box, it was used and carried in my camera bag. The custom doesn't care. As long as "new" item, they can charge GST, no matter already used or personal used.

My advise is DON'T bring the box together.

Yes, yes I know, seen the screen before many times... the last time I was in China, I was carrying a pack of crayons... you know those stubby pointed ones and in a case of 48 is 2 rows... the customs officer kind of was rather excited and wanted me to take a look and he asked me what those were... and in the screen, the image looks like a 2 belts of GPMG rounds... hahaha... anyway still had to open up and let him see it to be convinced...

Another option is to discard the box... or dismantle the box and manuals, then check it separately... hahaha...

Anyway all these are trying to evade tax lar... as long as below S$400 no GST charge... so buy in S'pore... support our economy...
