Hi guys,

Went to the Philippines recently on a work trip, had one chance to dive and did morning and evening snorkels. Obviously I did not bring my housing and strobe, but would have liked to have one of those all-weather digicam for snorkelling duties. Any one has done some research on them or know of any reviews that I can read to get more infor?

Thanks.

there's only one now i think, small compact, shock proof, water proof till 3m..

thats its advantages.. thats abt all :p

That's the mju 720SW? Thought there is a Pentax as well?

max depth 3m for max 30 min if i am not wrong :) (or rather, :( ) ;p

maybe 1 advantage is it is an added protection in case your housing floods and camera is at least water proof.

was considering the 720sw as a replacement to my a70 in a casing. it's so small and compact, no need box for pool, snorkling and outdoor-sports duties with hopefully better chance of survival in case the box is flooded. too good to be true?
then i read some -ve reviews on poor image quality, shutter lag, etc.... well i quess it's indeed too good to be true.
c'mon, when is canon going to start offering weather/water-proof digicam like this? c'mon canon! :hammer:

have tried out the Pentax Optio WP and WP10. general p&s. good for wet weather or water related activities. pretty nifty macro as well. not tried it at 1 m depth yet.

another weather proof digicam is Ricoh Caplio 500G, pretty good specs. http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/caplio/500gwide/

of course the Olympus mju was mentioned earlier

these second or third generation water proof digicams are better in specifications and rather compact as well.

The Ricoh is rather chunky, while the pentax and oly look sleek and nice. 1m vs 1.5m vs 3m, plus price diff. If cost not a concern I would take the Oly. But would the Pentax survive snorkelling, you know, frequent but short surface dives to 3~3.5m? Oly might, since there is a 30 min caveat on the water proof feature.

Sigh... gotta make more money....

Or you can try this. Can go deeper than 3m and does not take up too much space in your luggage. Knew a guy who used it to dive to 30m with his SLR.

Thanks for the "bag" suggestion, but I think I'll pass on this one.;)
