get the tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 if ur using a DSLR. it's a good all in one lens, sharp, light and has f/2.8 max aperture. should be around $700 brand new.

there is no such thing as a good all rounder with wide range. those 18-200mm lenses compromise on speed and quality.
