FIRST time to by a NON-NIKKOR lens.... :0

Bought one today, it had a CATASTROPHIC FAILURE after less than 25 shots !!! :(

It would not focus past 60-70cm, both AF and MF would not work... lens setting were checked and it was def major fault.

Be warned bro's....... I'd steer clear of this lens like the bird flu.

where u bought it from?

brand new or?

how did the failure happen? what were u shooting at? what was ur shooting style, was it burst mode etc. etc.?

prior to the failure, did u knock it, drop it or ... ?

The store I'll keep as a separate issue, they did all required and i'll support them exclusively and always. Issue is Sigma ( and the brand new lens in mention ).

Use : Nope nothing at all.... got it home had a play, it died totally ( it's the AF Motor ( HSM Motor they call it ) from what we could tell. ).

I may with pushing seek out another sample.... but as this was the first time in 15 years I went away from a Nikkor - it's well pretty sad state of affairs ) :(

ermm... probably could be sudden death of the HSM motor and since u said u can't even manual focus, i think the focus ring is also down.

at least my old AFS17-35 fared better. it let out some churning sound before it up-lorry. nice gesture, i would say.

The Gods of Nikon is not pleased with you becaused you strayed! just joking.

Anyway, hope it gets sorted out with warranty and all. Sorry to hear of your plight.

Thanks for sharing... I had personally encountered canon 50 1.4 & 100 2.8L AF sudden death while shooting....came as quite a shocker. So sometimes buying grey sets without manufacturer warranty does have its risks

I've stayed away from Sigma lenses due to the bad service from Sigma Service centre and repair warranty of only one month.

Recent Sigma Quality quite bad,

I think do not have QC Control and quick to delivery out the stocks.
For the brand new copy 30mm f1.4 HSM DX can be out of focus issue.

Not everything about Sigma is Bad, my Sigma 50mm 1.4 is the best of all the 50mm I have, it beat my nikon 50mm f1.8/1.4 flat down & its better than my Zeiss f1.4 in terms of bokeh but still lose to it in terms of color rendition....

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It is a matter of statistics.

Without going into the math and the various processes, let's just say some companies decide to have higher tolerance for error than others.

I use the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-f/5.6 and the Sigma 85mm f/1.4. Both are excellent. Maybe they will fail me one day. Maybe they will out live me. Who knows?

don't be too quick to judge. even Nikon D800 has its AF issues.

no one organisation is perfect.

Nikon has announcement on left AF issue.

but sigma lens 30mm f1.4 & 17-70mm OS HSM has been got sometime already and not new products.

Both models has tested after decided for Tamron 17-50 VC the AF much accurate & only not HSM perform as fast, but at lease I've paid for worth.

Maybe Cheese Rockwell bought one is very lucky copy :D

from what i know,if there is any issue it is either front focusing or rear focusing issue with Sigma lenses.

as for HSM/AFS/USM breaking down, yes, it will happen.

dun make it sound like it is a problem that only certain brands will have.

by the way, pls show me the article or the press release from Nikon stating that they acknowledge the left AF issue.
i can't seem to find it or even heard of it. thanks in advance.

Sigma lens when i am switch cam from canon to Nikon and bought the 18-50 HSM is much better QC.
And after I got the bad experience in AF issue, so no more sigma lenses line-up in future.

That's what I can tell.

Any brand or lenses should be the better lens.
Please noted before paying and check properly the AF with close up focus & used wide open for shoot and no problem, just pay your bill.
