As we know, Funan centers have a few so called reputable shops. Alan photo is one of them. Today I went to buy a small stuff, since Alan photo is the first one after reaching the second floor though I have been a faithful customer of TK foto. I checked the price at 15 bucks. I still went to TK foto. Unfortunately, they did not have the stock. So I went back to Alan photo and willing to buy it. When I taken out wallet and being told it was 35 dollars instead of 15. At the moment, I thought I was in Sim LIm square and dealing with those dishonest traders. I am really very disappointed and walked away.
Therefore, please alert with the people in alan photos.I think I will never go there in future. I will straightly go to TK foto. I like the way they put the price tag on the goods which is transparent and most importantly, their price is quite competitive.
Hope nobody will be cheated as we just some hobby folks in taking photos.

This happened to me once quoted at first $15 den later $18...not as bad as urs...but i told them i was quoted $15 but one of the other guy...they double checked that that was what i was quoted and gave me @$15

it doesn't matter, once see the price spike, no mood to bargin with them already.

Well, most of the time these sort of things occur in the so-call reputable stores. Example, few days back, I called CP to ask on a prime lens price, the first call was answered by one sales as the one I usually deal with just walked out of the shop, she quoted me 360. Then when the one I deal with all the time came back, he quoted me 340. In the end, another store in Funan offers even better price. Well, so do homework and call up few stores to ask is important.

she just a counter sales, whereas he is the boss and you usually deal with him, thus he gave you better price.

i got my first L-lens from Alan Photo, then i was not very sure with filter price, and when they suggested a filter, i said yes i need one, and sold me the sigma filter at $90.00, now when i think back, surely sigma filter dont costs that much, i had never verify again for the filter price as i cannot face the true....haha...but i never step in Alan Photo again, now regular in OP.

Wow, they actually gave you a quote? When I was there last sunday, they were so busy dealing with tourist that they can't be bothered to entertain my request for film and lens cap.

"Hi, excuse me, do you sell film?"

*silence*

"Hi, excuse me, do you sell film?"

'No' *without even looking at who asked the question*

You good...

Nope, he is also the counter sales:bsmilie:

Few weeks ago I bought a 49mm JYC MCUV filter slim from Alan Photo for $45, went home and check the price on ebay it's only $16.22. I promise myself not buying any single thing from Alan Photo anymore.

These days, regardless ... we have to check the prices with several places before we buy. Some quote higher, some quote lower and yes, I have experienced with AP before when they sell a little higher than their first quote. I went to ask them, went somewhere and went back, price up by SGD 5.00. Have been screwed by several places (not too bad), even from the famous place at AMK.
So far for me, J316 prices have been a little high for me but I still go there. After all, still lower than CP.:bsmilie:

Happened to me in MS Color too.. Called them and was quoted 730 for a prime lens, when i visit the shop to test, was told price is now 750 :( I just left without testing...

this kind of thing happen everywhere....not surprising

happened to me too. just tell them so-and-so quoted $x over the phone and they will usually honour the quote.

Few months back, when I was still getting a feel of how the stores are like in Funan (last time just go shaw tower to settle everything lol), the only thing I remember was AP consistently giving a higher quote. Furthermore, that scowl on the face of the man behind the counter, as if I was guilty of having stepped into the shop in the first place! Got friends who even get varying quotes from different people in the shop itself, how ludicrous!

Nvm about that, I never saw any need to step into there anymore... It's either TK or CP (P.Plaza) for all my photography equipment.

I had never consider AP to be in my personal 'preferred merchants'. I often wonder why other CS members do.

My personal safe list is Cathay, TK Foto, MS Colour, John 3:16 and thats it. 4 shops is aplenty to shop with. :)

For me, the first shop i usually call would be Cathay or Tk. They will probably have the rough prices, plus or minus, mostly plus for cathay.

I also kena tok by the AMK shop a few weeks back for a filter. I was there first time because a colleague highly recommended this "very honest" shop - so I never checked nor bargained. Only can myself to blame :mad2:... So I fully agree with you, everything check first on the web, then check a few places before buying. Else we have to take it as paying "school fees".

As always... the takeaway from such stories is ..always do your homework by checking prices from the different shops.

I'm glad our TS did that as he went to TK to check. Perhaps TS should have found out why it was $35 and $15. But that's a personal choice. Most importantly, never buy at a price you're not comfortable with, regardless of whatever shop you are at.

Oh well... Such things happen time and again... It's a matter of simple due diligence, which TS has thankfully performed... S$35 is more than 100% over S$15!

hope everyone can learn from my story. Camera equipment itself is already not cheapt. Do not let those dishonest ppl to eat more money from us.
